  1. Unfortunately every time I visit this replica palace it is closed. It looks fairly authentic from the outside and I understand that it had furniture and furnishings to reflect the bygone era. Foreigners are charged 100 baht, locals 20. The gardens are free. It is opposite Sunny Side Up cafe (excellent bread) and near Peony Guest House

  2. This old Palace was built for Rama V, the fifth King of Thailand. Nowerdays it’s a small museum about the history of Ranong and open for public from Wednesday to Sunday. It’s located in a beautiful public park inviting .you to walk around or have a nice picnic under trees.

  3. Confusing as how to gain entry , foreigners are charged double 100bht which is nothing in the scheme of things. Small museum, information boards in English so I enjoyed finding out about the history of Ranong. My husband bored to tears. Track to viewpoint by side of palace which is signposted is not worth the walk as trees all overgrown so no viewpoint.

  4. Great to see and hear about the old Thailand Kings and see what they lived in when visiting. We did not get to see the grounds, only the house but its interesting to see how Thailand or Siam was in the old days.

  5. We didn’t venture inside but enjoyed a walk around the gardens which were gorgeous on an extremely hot day.

  6. Admission was $100 baht each. It yales about 30 to 45 minutes There is not much to see here. There is some interesting stories about the Thai history in 1890’s and their empire and trade routes. It is a teak wood structure with 3 stories. It contains the queen and king bedrooms. Very plain for a palace. The grounds are pretty.

  7. We enjoyed both inside and the flowers in the garden. Learnt about the Kings journey back from Europe and the first Governors of Ranong. It was interesting.

  8. Originally built for King Rama V and subsequently used by King Rama VI, VII, and other royalty, the palace sits atop the town with distant views of the Andaman Sea and subtropical forest. Nowadays it costs 100 baht for a tour that’s best in Thai. Old photos of the royal family are sprinkled about along with renovations and replicas of various rooms including the sleeping quarters. The history speaks to a province that was once quite prosperous from tin mining. Today regional farming and family businesses keep the town alive.
