We were here in late winter, so the clouds were low and it was like walking around in a fog, strange but beautiful
This rose garden is laid back and informal, only started a couple of years back and still in the making.Firstly the roses themselves are all clearly labelled in English and Thai and, unusually, there are plenty of rambler roses to admire. One feature is the 70 metre long waterway canal with a couple of small fountains. There are also lots of well tended orchids to admire.The gardens themselves extend along the flank of a hill set in the wonderful forests of the area.The one problem with this is that most of the site is not wheelchair accessible.The garden’s shop is linked to the Royal Project shops, specialising in organic products at reasonable prices and the site itself doubles up as a horticultural study centre. The restaurant,again emphasising healthy organic food, is excellent and the prices reasonable (but no alcohlic drinks available.
The rose garden is a wonderful place to stroll through the roses and then relax in one of the cozy covered seating areas (many off in a space of its own) and enjoy the breeze and view. Even though we were there during the hot season in mid-afternoon, it wasn’t too hot to enjoy the environment. Fresh Royal Project vegetables in the offered dishes, nice selection of cool drinks and smoothies, and a Royal project store where you can choose from a limited selection of fresh vegetables, but also household products and handicrafts. The sign–The Royal Rose Garden– on the right (coming from Chiang Mai city) where you turn actually has a little rose garden around it. Very enjoyable place, and we want to return for lunch sometime.
i have been there last winter. there has a very beautiful place. the food is fusion by organic product. good feeling and good mood among rose garden.
Surely this and the Royal Rose Garden Houy Pak Pai are one and the same place! They’re both located at the same place and when we visited we did not notice two separate places.So, a sort of garden centre come restaurant. Not at its best in May, at the end of the hot season.
