  1. From Doi Suthep Wat Phrathat, it cost 40 baht to go up to Bhubing Palace via the red song thaew. The Bhubing Palace entrance tickets could only be bought from 8.30am to 11.30am and from 1pm to 3.30pm, and this seemed to be strictly enforced. The entrance fee was 50 baht per person for foreigners. Majority of the areas were cordoned off when we visited, though this information was not given to us at the ticketing counter. Signages on how to get around the area was also quite unclear. We only managed to see the royal palace and water reservoir, though the musical fountain was not in operation for the latter. The gardens were lovingly maintained by the staff but the flowers were rather sparse. (We were much more impressed by the flower festivals in Chiang Rai.) From Bhubing Palace, there was a row of song thaews that could bring visitors to either Doi Suthep Wat Phrathat or Doi Pui Hmong Hill Tribe Village for 40 baht. Overall, it fell short of our expectations.

  2. Bhubing Palace is a royal winter residence built to accommodate the royal family during their visits to Chiang Mai. We reached here, as part of a taxi tour of Wat Doi Suthep, and other temples on the west of the Chiang Mai Old Town. It is about 6km from Wat Doi Suthep. Entry to the place is by purchase of a ticket priced at 50Baht. You must be properly attired, shoulders covered and with long pants, or you may be given a pants to cover up before entry to the compound. There are a number of buildings here. There is a log cabin which is the seasonal residence of the royal princess, a eucalyptus wood log cabin which is the seasonal residence of crown prince, a two storey royal Guesthouse, a teak wood pavilion, a fern garden, and a water reservoir. The gardens with various flowering plants, including roses are well landscaped, well maintained, clean quiet and peaceful away from noise. There are sign boards explaining the various buildings here. We were there in the morning, and the weather was pleasant due to the elevation and the surroundings. We spent about one and a half hours, here to look around and capture some pictures. Our visit here was worthwhile.

  3. Hiked from Doi Suthep to Bhubing Palace. We got to Doi Suthep by red truck and then we walked on main road, later the road narrowed. There is no trail and traffic is higher but ok, walking ?‍♀️ is ok due to relatively good space on wider road. Later on narrower road it is only for one car so people, motorbikes ? and cars ? need to be careful. It is hiking ? from 1,000m to 1,600m. Good shoes ?, water and snack needed. You can continue to Doi Pui view point- great place to see the jungle from top. It is short walk for 15min. Bhubing Palace we saw from outside as we forgot to take proper dress ?

  4. VERY strict rules on attire. Cover knees and shoulders with thick material of you can be bothered to go here. Rude staff on the door. We had read too many bad review to bother hiring more clothing. (The outfit we tried to go in with had been fine for all other attractions in Bangkok etc).

  5. It is very beautiful with the plants and fliwers. A definite plus is the free parking. As foreigner you have to pay a higher price-even with a work permit. They are very strickt with the clothing, stricter than in a temple.

  6. We went in the rainy season and the place was shrouded in cloud but it was hot, so much like walking around in a sauna. The palace was closed as where many parts of the garden which was frustrating.Glad I went but would only go again if I could see more of it!!

  7. Nice garden, no entry into buildings. Many “No entry” signs. Nice walk. Not recommend if visiting alone. See building only for outside.

  8. Visited the Palace grounds and was underwhelmed. While the gardens are ok, I was expecting more. Walking the grounds could can be confusing as there are conflicting directional signs and there are many areas that are not accessible. If you are in Chiang Mai for an extended period, it’s worth the trip, otherwise spend your time doing other things.

  9. The Bhubing Palace is one of the four royal Palaces. This particular Palace is on the road up to the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep above Chiang Mai
