  1. Nuan Thip Pier is one of the jumping off points for tourists to catch a ferry from the historic fishing village of Ban Phe to the resort island of Koh Samet. But for anyone not in a hurry and willing to take the time, the market on the pier is an experience in itself.Ban Phe is famous throughout Thailand for the quality of its dried squid, dried prawns and shrimps, dried fish and other dried or preserved seafood. I have a Thai friend from an inland province of Thailand who visits occasionally. Her trip to Rayong is not complete until I have taken her to Nuan Thip Pier Market so that she can stock up on a supply of dried squid and other delicacies to take home. The range of dried seafood products is mind blowing. More types of squid than I imagined ever existed, prawns big, small and minute, dried and smoked fish, dried and preserved jelly fish of various varieties, and a range of other dried seafood snacks, sauces and savouries. In addition, one section of the pier sells seashells, either alone or made into mobiles or door or window screens.Even if dried squid is not to your taste, a stop over at Nuan Thip Pier Market is a cultural experience not to be missed.

  2. We went to this market (moatly) because it was a complementary shuttle ride from our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with it. We also found it as a great place for a day trip on a speed boat… which we took to Koh Samet. Great market, great dayď

  3. Nuan Thip Market houses the major piers for ferries plying the five kilometers across the Gulf of Thailand to the resort island of Koh Samed (or Koh Samet).Return tickets for the 40 minute ferry ride are THB 100 a person. For people arriving in their own car there are new parking arrangements. The car park at Nuan Thip Market is still in use, but during busy periods a much larger car park has been built on the other side of the road to the market.Boys on motor bikes or samlors will guide you across to the car park then bring you back to the pier, and the other way around when you return from the island.Car parking is THB 100 a day and it is usual to give the boys a THB 20 tip for the ride between the market and the carpark.

  4. When you look at the row after row of stalls in Nuan Thip Market stacked high with dried squid, you wonder if there is any squid left in the ocean. And there are many varieties and grades of dried squid, and prawns and other dried seafood.Rayong, bordering the Gulf of Thailand, is famous for its dried squid and shrimp, and Thai tourists who come here inevitably end up buy packets of it to take back home for themselves and for their friends.

  5. Nuan Thip Market in Ban Phe is a huge market, mainly specialising in dried squid, prawns and other seafood, for which it is famous. But it is also the main ferry terminal for tourists heading to Koh Samet. There are many touts who will try to talk you into taking a speedboat across to the island, which only takes about 10 minutes. But unless you have money to burn, just buy a return ticket for Baht 100 and take the leisurely ferry ride across. It only takes about 35 minutes and you can sit on the top deck and enjoy the sea breezes as you ferry across.
