  1. Just south of the more well-know Wat Srisuphan, women are allowed into this silver, nickel and aluminum-clad gathering hall. As with all wats, everyone should dress modestly, so we both packed light towels to skirt our knees briefly while we went inside. Different wats enforce this guidance differently.Anyway, this hall’s interior is much more “modern” styled than the famous Wat Srisuphan ordination hall. It reminds me a little of the interior of a bank vault.

  2. Our local friend has taken us here (this year with another friend we had come to Thailand with us) each year. Much smaller than the other silver temple, but quiet and beautiful. The carvings are amazing, and if you are lucky, you can find the gentleman doing some work. Just amazing, intricate, and story telling. Nice and quiet, and you can soak it all in..

  3. This temple is close to a very busy shopping street. It has some beautiful features and is quite impressive but it’s not one of my favourites in Chiang Mai.

  4. A beautiful sight to see but after collecting 50b as an entrance fee, I was not allowed to enter as a woman.

  5. I didn’t go in. I walked around the outside instead and decided I wasn’t missing too much. When I go to temples, I almost always make a donation, but I don’t want the temple reframed as an entertainment where the ‘donation’ is in fact an entry fee (for foreigners only in this case). So yes, I missed out, but on the other hand, it wasn’t too hard to visit Wat Umong, where the feeling is a lot more open, and a lot more in keeping with the Buddha’s teachings, and where, yes, entry is free and where I’m happy to give a donation of my own volition. I accept that there are many tour groups going through temples where people don’t feel inclined to give anything back, and I think it’s a combination of this and in some cases greed on the part of the temples that have brought about this situation – not just in this temple, but in many. In this case there’s a ‘Welcome’ sign (in English) advising punters of a THB50 entry fee, implying that everyone has to pay this fee, whereas in fact Thais pay nothing. If your purpose in existence is to keep in faith with the Buddha, then sneakiness doesn’t provide a good start.

  6. This silver temple is just round the corner from the more well know one Wat Muen Sarnis very quiet and has a long history. It is free to go in and women can go inside. The walls are covered in fantastic pictures in silver or a metal and the outside has reliefs of many of famous land marks in ThailandLovely place to see real craftsmanship without the many tourist.Just beautiful

  7. Beautiful place, with a combination of old and new. The old structures include the chedi, which appears to be several centuries old. The new parts of Wat Muen San include the silver plated building and statuary, which date from the early 2000s. I visited the temple in the morning and there very few visitors there, making it a very peaceful and quiet visit. There is no admission fee and the temple is 5 minutes walking distance from the more well-known silver temple, Wat Sri Suphan. To get to Wat Muen San from the Old City, you can walk southward for about 10 or 15 minutes from the South Gate (Pratu Chiang Mai).
