  1. Ban Nong Bua is the biggest homes of Tai Lue people (alternative spellings: Thai Lue, Lue) who are famous for their traditional tribal fabric with “Nam Lai” patterns, an art handed down through generations. The design has been improved during times but still retaining the original patterns. The native woven materials have now become a highly popular among tourists.

  2. Just less than one hour drive from the city. This temple still keep the most perfect wall painting inside.

  3. The Wat Phumin in Nan city is famous and busy, but this temple is of the same beauty with stunning murals inside. But because it is about 40km north of Nan town there are almost no western tourists coming here. There are always a few old man playing music and behind the temple is a OTOP shops selling traditional Thai Lue cloths. I love the local atmosphere here.Be aware that it is a bit difficult to get there. Your own transport or rented Songteauw would be best.

  4. I was getting a bit templed out at this stage but I must admit this is a very nice Wat with a bit of character! The Murals are certainly worth looking at and inside a very pleasant experience, the other reviews have basically covered everything but there is an added bonus which is the “Tai Lue House” and surrounding area. We were treated to several renditions from the resident quartet and briefly spoke to locals who are obviously very proud of their history and rightly so. The wood working around the temple and other building aroused my interest and are a bonus. Well worth a visit.

  5. This beautiful temple is on the route of the bike tour we took. Stunningly beautiful as well as interesting. Well worth the visit.

  6. It is located on the way to Pua district, far away from Nan city around 30 km. and you have to observe the sign to temple. Drive about 5 km from the main road. Once you get in, you will hear the local music from the local elder people who always play to welcome tourist, you can donate fro them as well.

An ancient temple with over 400 years of Thai-Lue culture. The art is beautiful and unique Wat Nong Bua is located in Tha Wang Pha district, Nan province. Or will drive the car itself. The peaceful atmosphere.”

  8. I love this temple especially with the essence of local. Senior people who live nearby are gathering together here, like a small community, where they can proudly present their way of living. Their genuine and hospitality is real. I love people here.

  9. Located a few kilometers off the main highway from Nan city to Pua, this Wat attracts visitors because of its floor to ceiling murals that cover all four interior faces of the structure. They are quite similiar to the murals at Wat Phumin in Nan City, but the hundreds of human figures here seem lifeless in comparison to the artistry at Wat Phumin. If you only have time to see one of the two, skip this one.

  10. We drove up from Nan city to see this temple. The coloured wall murals and paper sketches/paintings in glass cabinet were interesting to see but other than that, this temple isn’t anything spectacular. Its advertised as part of a village however its not actually in a village per se, there is one unoccupied Thai style house with few furniture and three women showing weaving techniques.
