Phra Ae Beach is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Highway 4245 Sala Dan, 81150, Thailand
Long beach is just amazing in high season, gloriously sandy no sun beds, parasols or motorised water sport and plenty of room, Great for swimming. A mixture of resorts restaurants and bars and massage shops on the beach. In low season you get very high tides and pretty every business north of sunset sa is boarded up, the beach is a bit wider as you go south and a couple of resorts stay open all year round. In May the sea was pretty rough and you would barely see 5-10 people on the whole beach
amazing sand . gentle sloping sea . very few , if any, rocks . Check out Fat Turrtle at the Phra Ae end of Long Beach too
Another one of the great, great beaches on Ko Lanta!! A bit touristy but, Hey! Isn’t it why we plan vacations here? No longer a secret!!
Parts of this beach are very rocky, so double check photos from where you plan to stay. The other parts, though, are heaven! Soft white sand, warm water, shallow slow grade many meters out to the deeper water, perfect for kids. Great sunset views. Unlike many Thai beaches, the water was clear, minimal pollution and plastic.
Not the best tropical beach holiday spot I have been to in Thailand but it has the mix of nice sandy beach, relaxing deck chairs, restaurants and bars on the beach, beachfront bungalows, resort pool, and a host of activities like day trips to the islands or adventure trips. There are various websites describing each of the beaches (pros and cons) along the west coast of Koh Lanta. Generally as you move south the beaches become progressively shorter and quieter (with a lower density of hotels and tourists – hideaway beaches and resorts with the trade off for tranquillity being less choices for restaurants, markets, tour agents, etc. and a bit more inconvenience in getting there). Phra Ae Beach, more commonly known as Long Beach, is the second main beach from the northern end of the island and said to be the longest. It is practical in being not too far from the main town Saladan and various piers etc.The northern end of Long Beach has wider stretches of white sand (things get more rocky in the southern parts). Although built-up in areas (many resorts, hotels, beach bars, restaurants, etc.) there are still some areas less developed and quieter along the beach. However, there also seems to be an absence of trees for shade in many spots. But you can usually find a nice little bar or restaurant where to relax.Long Island is a good base for taking boat trips to various islands and associated reefs in the Andaman Sea. I took several day tours to swim, snorkel (coral, amazing tropical fish and other marine creatures), picnic and rest. These are easy to book at one of the many agents on the main street.Long Island has luxury resort accommodation to more basic bungalows. In the north there is a well established backpacker area. Although I stayed in the middle area of Long Beach I usually walked north to the interesting mix of beachside restaurants and enjoy a cocktail watching the sunset followed by dinner on the beach. Long Beach (and other beaches on Koh Lanta) is renowned for it spectacular sunsets and I was not disappointed. Was lovely watching changes in the colours and clouds.Note there are also tour agents, restaurants, 7-ellevens, chemists, etc. along the main north-south road behind the beach. Easy to stock up with supplies or make a short trip to the markets in Saladan. For me, Koh Lanta is a better choice for a beach escape than Ao Nang.
This long golden beach is perfect to wake up to first thing in the morning. First thing in the morning many hotels along here have their staff clean debris washed up during the night. Looking across to the Phi Phi and other Islands, makes this glorious at sundown. Wander along the beach to the northern end and enjoy a massage with Prattee Massage under the Tamarind trees with the waves crashing metres from you – this is bliss.
Favorite beach on Koh Lanta!easy to find a spot for your self, nice sand and depth of the water is perfect.Good for a morning run also
Nice sandy bottom, but in the water there were some weird purple slimey things that floates around and they were nasty.
A good mix of long sandy beach (about 3k long). With a good mixture of bars & restaurants. The sea bed can drop away very quickly once in the water, just keep an extra eye open if you do have very small children. Other than that very safe to swim.
I reviewed this beach a few years ago, and have been coming here since 2014. Nothing much has changed. It has retained its charm and personality and is a fantastic beach with a range of different types of resorts, bars, restaurants and massage shops spread out along its length. It is generally a quiet beach, with a few busier pockets mainly at the northern end. No sun beds, parasols or motorised water sports here. Peaceful, chilled and perfect. Absolutely love the place. A million miles from the carnage of other places in Thailand where commercialism has accelerated at ridiculous rates over the past ten years.
