  1. Quiet, well tended, beautiful resting place for some of those who during the building of the death railroad. Please see it it if in Kanchanaburi

  2. It’s a have to see spot.. Very impressive to see what the result is from some crazy people, both military and politicians.

  3. This cemetery is very well maintained and is respectful to the valour of the men who lost their lives during a difficult time.

  4. I have been researching and trying to keep alive the memory of the US POWs who worked the TBR. They comprised less than 1% of the total Allied POWs so they are easily overlooked.Although all the US POW remains were repatriated to their families by 1948, ChungKai holds a special place for them. In early 1945, as the Allied bombing raids on the TBR intensified, the famous bridges over the “River Kwai” (actually the Mae Klong river but that’s another story), the US POWs were moved the main camp near the bridge over to ChungKai.Many were liberated from there in SEP-OCT 1945!

  5. I am glad that we visited this place as it was a solemn reminder of the evils of war; reading the plaques dedicated by families, far away, in memory of their lost young sons.

  6. Many reviewers have confused this war cemetery with the larger Kanchanaburi War Cemetery in the center of Kanchanaburi. The Chong Kai Allied War Cemetery is across the river from the main part of Kanchanaburi city. It has many fewer graves than the Kanchanaburi cemetery, with about 1400 Commonwealth soldiers and 300-400 Dutch soldiers interred. The site of the Chong Kai cemetery was actually a camp for workers on the Death Railway and a location where POWs had established a hospital and church. Many of the soldiers buried in this cemetery had been treated at the POW hospital on site. The cemetery is beautifully maintained and very peaceful.

  7. Well tbis is one of the things to do in the area. While cemeteries not in my list i can’t refuse that it was a nice visit to see the Glen soldiers

  8. These sites are well maintained and with CWG Commonwealth War Graves and are sureal place to come and pay your respects and to understand the scale of the sacrifice and toll this railway had when construction by POW in WWII.Take you time and walk around and absorb the amount of young men who perished. It’s a place to get a great understanding of the toll for the Death Railway

  9. It’s important, especially now with the world on the verge again to remember those who had no choice but to die, not on the battlefield but in a prisoner of war camp following horrendous treatment. This cemetery is thankfully well kept and it was nice to be able to show our respects
