  1. I have seen many temples over Asia and this one right by the lake in center of Mae Hong Son to me was nothing special but did look pretty lit up at night while walking around the lake.

  2. By all means when you are in Mae Hong Son this is a place to visit. It is a very modest temple compared to those in Chaing Mai but houses a marvelous collection of Burmese reverse painted glass panels telling the story of the life of Buddha. Well worth the visit.

  3. This temple is next to the lake, it looks beautiful on a day time and nighttime it is lit up and looks equally amazing.

  4. This temple viewed across the lake is beautiful, particularly at nigt when it is illuminated. Inside it is nice, but nothing special.

  5. Nice temple with elegant stupa, you must visit in the day and return at night for a better view. Take a short walk to across the lake to gain a full picture of all the structures.

  6. Mae Hong Son is a pretty upland town which sees a steady flow of visitors. One of its must-see attractions is the pretty lakeside wats in the centre of town. They are often said to be ‘Burmese’ in style, but as far as I can gather, this actually means in the manner of Shan wats from the troubled nation’s Shan State. What you find here is markedly different from a Thai wat. It is more like a sprawling teak house filled with pillars, mounted deer’s heads, statues, votives, wall calendars and other assorted bric-a-brac. From outside you see tiered roofs, golden chedis and delicate metal fretwork. It’s definitely worth seeing.

  7. Two things really stand out about this wat. The thrill of seeing it all lit up backdropping the lake at night. And the truly fascinating small doll and pictograph museum with a striking artistic Buddha in the foyer (I also enjoyed the copacetic kitty sitting on the floor which started purring as soon as I touched it. Ignore the “no women” sign. Other than that, the wat is standard modernistic Thai boring.

  8. Although we did not visit inside the temple, we found it very interesting and beautiful to see from the lake and more up close.

  9. As another poster has suggested, this is a wonderful temple for taking photos. The monks are friendly and informative, Don’t miss the museum beside the main stupa; there are lots of ancient sculptures/statues demonstrating Buddhist philosophy touching the Buddha’s meeting with the old, the sick and the dead and which had such a profound influence on his teachings. (No, nothing heavy but easy for non-Buddhists to understand).
