We booked a private tour with Secret Food tours and our guide was Jan. This is my 2nd time using Secret Food Tours (Previously in Seoul) and this tour was just as wonderful in Bangkok. This company is professional, prompt communication from booking with complete details where to meet. Our guide, Jan spoke perfect english, was energetic and very informative food guide. We tried not only Thai cuisine, but a mix of many unique asian foods. I asked a ton of questions about the culture and food of course, and Jan happily answered. I This tour included 10-12 stops with huge portions, and we were so full by the time the tour was over! Jan took a took tons of photos along the way for us, and provided the names of all the dishes we tried. I asked a few questions about Iced thai tea (which was not part of the tour) and Jan made a special stop to her favorite tea shop so I could try some (and get assistance ordering) + we even got hands on food prep at one stop to prepare a fresh papaya salad. Wow! **Tip- I recommend booking as early in advance. December is a very busy time and book up quickly. Especially private tours! Don’t delay.
Good outing with the caring guide and nice participants. We walked from Hua Lamphong station to Wat Mangkon, not only popping into many different places for food but a couple of temples with interesting stories. We had a wonderful time.
Jan is an excellent tour guide, super friendly, very knowledgeable about the food and culture. Her English is very good and easy to understand. We have done other street food tour on our time in Bangkok and they do not compare to the secret food tour with Jan. Good photosWe Did not feel rushedExcellent food choicesVery accommodating with our family and children. If you do this tour ask for Jan, she is a very good guide and made our experience very smooth and a night to remember.
Jan’s expertise shone brightly as she led us through the evening’s culinary adventure, sprinkling in unexpected gems that left us delighted and curious. To fully indulge in the plethora of flavors and dishes, it’s wise to approach the tour with a light appetite, having eaten sparingly throughout the day, allowing for a truly immersive gastronomic experience.
The whole experience from the initial email to inquire and booking went smoothly. Our tour host Jan is kind, sweet, and very professional. The tour begin in Chinatown Bangkok. Caution: Be prepared to eat all of food! Go to the tour hungry. We visited 11 places total including desserts and drinks. We highly recommended booking with the Secret Tours group and host Jan!!
The
My son booked this tour for us as a surprise and it was great. We had Chantana as our guide and she was excellent – funny, informative, helpful – a real delight. She took us to some streets that we would not have ventured into – to taste some most wonderful street foods. In fact a few of the street food we tried were better than an upmarket Michelin rated restaurant. So overall, we would highly recommend this tour.
Ton was an incredible guide – incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and took lots of great pictures for us. We learned about the history of Chinatown in Thailand and ate so many great things along the way! The group was small (4 total) and we all had an amazing experience. It truly felt like we were getting the best of the best in all the food choices on the tour and could not recommend enough!!
So yummy and so much food! Everything we tried was amazing, Jan knew everyone in chinatown as well as where the locals ate. Lots of fun new foods, my favorite was the michellin donuts
A great walking food tour through Chinatown. Our tour guide Chantana Boonrod was excellent and spoke good English. She also gave us a rundown of the history of the temples and the culture. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Having previously booked a food tour in another city, I booked directly again with Secret Food Tours without hesitation due to previous excellent experiences. This tour was great, but not quite excellent. Our group was small with six guests in total, and our guide Sak was a friendly young chap who kept things moving quickly and dealt with a few unexpected issues well.To give a summary of the tour and the experience – the value was excellent, the quality and variety of the food was excellent and there was plenty to eat (even when sometimes sharing dishes). One of the main benefits of this tour is that there is very little waiting in queues in the busy Chinatown – you get the rockstar treatment and taken to an empty table right in the centre of each restaurant that magically appears amongst the surrounding chaos of a busy service. As a group I think we all had a good time, and had easy conversation between us – myself from the UK, a female solo US traveller, a couple from the US, and a couple from Sweden. It was good fun for the three+ hour tour.Sak interspersed the tour with historical information about some of the religious templates along the route, but whilst this was fairly interesting, my constructive criticism is that as a food tour I would have preferred to hear more about how Bangkok’s history brought in food influences from different cultural communities and how the culinary scene has evolved over time.Otherwise all very good and I’d recommend to others. Eat lightly beforehand!
