  1. We had the best experience! Everyone at the cooking school were amazing! We learned how to cook traditional Northern Thai food. We had fun we ate well. This is A MUST when visiting Chiang Mai.

  2. I’ve gone to Thailand a few times and each time I try to see if I can do a cooking class with Lin. I highly recommend her Northern Thai class you won’t forget it

  3. We had a private Lanna cooking lesson with Lin and we had an amazing time my mom and I. We started by buying the ingredients required at the local market – Lin made us try so many foods and really did her best to answer all of our questions/ present all of the market curiosities. Then we had a half a day cooking lesson – so interesting ! Everything was perfect. Lin is always smiling and she is an amazing teacher. The recipes were very tasty and we left with a recipe book wick was also nice.I would recommend a thousand time !

  4. This class was definitely the highlight of our trip. It is always a pleasure to learn from someone who is passionate about the subject they are teaching and Lynn is so passionate and so knowledgeable about Northern Thai Cuisine and Northern Thai Culture. I loved talking to her and her future plans of making Northern Thai Cuisine more accessible to everyone. Besides being knowledgeable about all the ingredients during the market tour, you could really tell she really cared for the people and wanted to make sure that she is putting money back into the economy. She would buy us little samples of ingredients or food to try. After the tour, we went to her home and she showed us the ingredients in the her garden. The recipes were all fun to put together and so so so tasty. The sausage recipe came from her mother who would sell sausage made of pork that her father would sell. I would highly suggest taking this class and I plan on taking another class when I go back to Chiang Mai.

  5. My wife and I booked the Lanna Cuisine cooking class with Love Chiang Mai Cooking and Touring as we wanted to try something we felt would be more authentic to Chiang Mai’s culinary heritage vs. the typical cookie cutter papaya salad/green curry/mango sticky rice type classes that seem to be ubiquitous throughout the country. Lin picked us up on time in the morning and brought us to a very local market, where she explained many different ingredients (even ones we were not going to be using during the class), asked the vendors to let us sample unfamiliar items, and even picked up some durian for us to try for the first time (side note: yes it smells a little funky, but it’s not nearly as off-putting as YouTube videos and travel shows would lead you to believe, and we found that it’s actually quite nice to eat!). It was clear from the get-go that Lin had a big and fun personality as she joked with us and the vendors as we moved through the market. We then went back to Lin’s cooking school on her property about 20 minutes’ drive outside Chiang Mai where we cooked the following 8 dishes from scratch -1), Sai Aou – Chiang Mai Sausage (delicious and just as good/better than from street stalls)2.) Northern Thai red curry with Pumpkin (served with ant eggs which provided a nice texture!)3). Abb Pla – Grilled Fish wrap in banana leaf4). Tom Yam Jin Kai – Chicken Northern Thai style spicy soup5). Kaow Soi Kai – Chiang Mai noodles with chicken (we had some incredible Khao Soi at various markets and stalls in Chiang Mai, but this one may have been the best of them all!)6). Naam Prick Noom – Green Northern Thai chili dipping paste (delicious!)7). Kai Muang Nung – Locals Chicken Steamed with curry paste8.) Kaeng Hung Lay” – Pork belly Burmese style curry (delicious and much better than a version of this dish we had tried on a very good food tour at a local restaurant the night before).Overall we loved the food and the opportunity to prepare the curries from scratch while hanging out with Lin, who is hysterical, exceedingly knowledgeable about Lanna cuisine, and genuinely humble and welcoming. At the end, she provided us with an awesome booklet of recipes, including the dishes we prepared along with many additional Lanna and more typical/mainstream Thai dishes. We look forward to using it for years to come to prepare authentic thai dishes! If in Chiang Mai, this is a highly unique, once in a lifetime must try experience if you want to take a deeper, off the typical tourist path dive into Chiang Mai/Northern Thai cuisine!Note: if you are considering this class, you should be aware of the following: * you will be doing a LOT of chopping and pounding with a mortar and pestle – it’s a real cooking class!* you will be potentially using or sampling some ingredients you may be very unfamiliar with and will need to keep an open mind (e.g. ant eggs for one curry, optional sampling of water buffalo skin from the market etc).* this class will take up pretty much a full day if you are cooking a lot of main course dishes as many dishes are slow cooked

  6. We spent 2 wonderful days with Lyn (Panphailin), first on a walking tour of Chiang Mai sampling street foods and learning about local Lanna (Northern Thai) culture. It was a fascinating time understanding how the Lanna have a very different life style and cuisine from what we thought we knew about “Thai” cuisine. We had an excellent introduction to Thai history, the religion and temples, and how it has changed over the centuries. The next day we did a hiking tour to the Doi Inthanon National Park, where Lyn organizes with a local guide to hike along Mae Klang River, through forest to Mae Klang Leung village. Then we had lunch, actually helped prepare lunch with our local guide, Goc and his wife, Pordee. It was a great experience to visit them in their home. Lyn explained that as a student, she lived with Goc and Pordee as interned as a government social worker in the area helping the farmers transition from farming opium to legal crops. Organizing tours is how she now helps them earn a living.Lyn is very supportive of local businesses and works hard to make one feel that they are helping the local people. We highly recommend Lyn Panphallin to introduce you to Northern Thai culture. We will need to return to take her cooking course.
