  1. Cave Lodge is great: relaxed and friendly and settled into local village life. I like how they don’t step on the villagers’ toes by cutting them out of tourists’ visits to Cave Tham Lod. Love how Cave Lodge run their own tours – great caving and excellent guides.Buy and read John’s book. its amazing! Such a great insight into 30 yrs experiences in norther thailand. i learnt heaps. Some of those stories are rippers!Rooms a little more expensive than i would have thought tho: for what you get.

  2. What a fun place to stay. Worth the scary drive from Chiang Mai to get here! Only stayed two nights but it was so relaxing- went on a hike and did the kayaking/cave with our nine year old twins and had a blast. Great food, friendly owners. Nice mix of guests but mostly a hippy-dippy sporty vibe. The best part of our trip so far! The beds are not comfy, though- super hard!

  3. We stayed in a 700 Baht room which was great value for money- clean and quaint. The environment is beautiful and peaceful. The restaurant food was great and safe. My wife got food poisoning at a home restaurant just outside the lodges front gate when we stopped in for lunch one day. Cave Lodge do home made wood fired bread and muffins- delicious! Nice staff.

  4. I’m currently Travelling the MHS loop anti clockwise from Chiang Mai. After my stay in Pai, i headed straight to Thom Lod Cave before reaching MHS. Didn’t pre-book any tours or such. Just headed down, went to the tourist information counter. Paid for a guide and was brought into the cave. Price is only 150THB per pax. The cave was stunning as you get to see how beautiful nature is. Tour guide couldn’t speak English. But inside the caves, there would be small little information boards for you to read regarding the caves. Remember to bring your own torchlight! My tour lasted roughly 1.5hours. And I then continued my journey to MHS. I would highly recommend you drop by and check this stunning attraction out.

  5. Lovely stay friendly dog, beautiful village, pretty streams and bamboo bridges, tin rooofed restaurants, organic gardens to fill your dinner requirements, friendly and welcoming place to wander in

  6. The bamboo bungalows are the perfect place to stay in Northern Thailand. The restaurant/chill area is very well built and thought out, with a fire in the centre (much needed as the temperature at night definitely drops up there) There is a huge menu with so much to choose from for breakfast/lunch or dinner! Lod cave is defiantly worth a visit and is no more than 10 minutes walk from Cave Lodge. The boat trip and swift watching defiantly makes the trip a must. Leave it later in the day when it is quieter.John and his wife are extremely welcoming, and kind natured. They are great for advice on everything. We took a guide to the pristine waterfalls one day. I fell very ill during this trip and if it wasn’t for our guide (Guy) I would not have managed to get back! He speaks incredible English and very knowledgeable about the local area. We would love to come back another day.

  7. The Cave Lodge was an amazing experience. We loved the remote location and the great atmosphere. It’s rustic, which we like. The cabins are cute and comfortable. The lodge is pretty quiet. People were there from all over. The food was reasonable and good. My husband and son did the all day tour and really liked it. I walked over to the national park and took the local cave tour. It was good we all had choices. Make sure to do the Tuesday morning market. Great local experience! Would love to go back when the water is higher and do some of the raft trips!

  8. Four of us went on a caving trip with Cave Lodge to see three caves. It was a dissappointing trip. The guide called Wat did not speak English so he could not answer any questions or give us any information about the caves. The first two caves (Fossil and Waterfall) were not worth it. They tell you there will be water and narrow space in the Waterfall cave and we were prepared for that but they won’t tell you that you will crawl in a mud for most of the time and when you get to the end, you see muddy water going to a black hole. Crawling in a mud for the sake of crawling but there is nothing to see. Fossil cave was average. Be prepared for quite a lot of bat dung. The last cave (Christmas) was quite nice. However the best part of the trip was the trekking in between the caves.

  9. While I like the lace and the cave, beware that the beds in the huts consist of Matratzes on top of concrete. With temperatures dropping down to 6 degrees at night you are sleeping on top of ice blocks. Add to that very thin blankets and you have a serious health hazard. Stay in this place in summer!

  10. Excellent room – plenty of space for whole family and a fab view. Lovely food and amazing staff. We’ve had so much fun kayaking, caving, hiking and relaxing no one wants to leave. This has been the best place we’ve visited in Thailand and will definitely come back!
