Stayed in Soppong and hired a bike, not very experienced with bikes so be careful as the road is very winding. I got the about 4pm and the coffee shop was closing. They open in the morning very early. Really wanted to see the mists from there with a coffee and a bowl of noodles. I didn’t as it had been raining the night before and the roads were a bit wet, if you’re good with a bike go for it.
Quite many Thai tourists swarming into this remote village. Is it sustainable, or just a bubble? Totally forgotten some years ago, but now in overdrive….. Jabo is hip with thai tourists. Ban Jabo is two lines of houses along a mountain ridge with limestonecliffs on the one and nice view to the other side. 2 coffeeshops, two restaurants, one viewpoint for plenty of “selfies”, in front of painting “Jabo in love” haha. Nobody speaks english, so better bring a guide from nearby Soppong (maybe from Cave Lodge in Ban Tham). Local lahu women offer guided walks to nearby caves with prehistoric coffins in it. Nice walk. When visiting Ban Ja Bo, don´t forget to visit next village to the north in the valley, Mae La Na, as well. Nice Shan temple and more caves.
It is set in Karst mountains and the cliffs come to 50 m from the village. there are beautiful views from Jabo. There is now a coffee shop, and sometimes I see 10 minivans, or 40 big motorbikes there. However, anytime that I have stopped there, the cafe has been closed. It is only in the last few years that it became popular with tourists. Mae Lanna is a few km further, and past that is a tiny organic village called Padjaroen. They grow coffee and fruits and other things. We buy green coffee beans from them to roast for our business in Soppong.
Small tribal village with nice viewpoint and excellent noodles restaurant. Nearby Tham Jabo cave with prehistoric log coffins not to be missed, local guide 150 bht per person or 300-400 bht if you want to be nice. Slightly scary climb onna flimsy wooden staircase …
Situated near the town of PAI. It a place with great views, food and drinks with lots of photo taking opportunities. If you visit PAI, be sure to make this one of your stops.
Location: Ban Jabo village / Ban Cha Bo Hill Noodle in Mae Hong Son, Northern Thailand. Located between Pai and Mae Hong Son city center. It is about 1 hr 20 min (55km) drive from Pai vía route 1095. There are few noodle houses /cafes along the road. We were there on 5 Jan 2020, Sunday afternoon in one of the noodle house. Having fun in the bamboo platform noodle house. And, we stopped by again on 7 Jan 2020, Tuesday early morning purposely for the view of the Sea of Clouds. We waited there start from around 5.50am for the Sunrise. It is really a great place to view the Sea of Clouds. Don’t miss it for your trip to Pai.Most of the shop close on Tuesday except a noodle house/cafe. Go there early, order your noodle & drinks, get a nice spot & wait for the beautiful view. You won’t regret to get up so early.
Got there by motorbike. Rather overrun at dawn by Chinese tourists taking selfies. But amazing views once mist cleared. Some good coffee shops!
Three km off the road from Pai to Mae Hong Song there is little village. It has some noodle shops that offer a nice view over the valley. A view that can be enjoyed in other places too. If you want a lunch and have lots of time then maybe this is a place to go. Otherwise, don’t bother.
Ban Jabo, particularly the “swinging legs” cafe is very popular with both local Thais as well as tourists going to Pai or Mae Hong Son. When we reached the Jabo Cafe, it was very crowded with everyone fighting for the coveted seats where you could swing your legs while having a bowl of noodles (B50) and latte (B45) and at the same time admiring the mountain vista. I liked the place for its serenity. A must visit while in Pai but it will be long drive up the mountain.
The view was amazing. We drove by accidently, we were very lucky we did! We rented 2 wooden cabins next to eachother (4 people). The first 5 times we asked, the cabins were fully booked. The 6th time we were lucky. Wake up before the sun comes up! Than you have an amazing sunrise. The cabin is very basic, but clean. We payd 500 thai bath. They arranged also food (mu katta) and beer. Service was amazing
