We live in Thailand and have been to many tours in the past in Phuket, Krabi and Phang Nga areas. This was one of the worst trips so far. They said 9 points tour, but out of the 9 points, they didn’t took us on 2 points. They also skipped our snorkeling at 2 points in Phi Phi.The tour operator Mr. B is very rude. I don’t know why people are praising him (may be new travelers?) but from my experience this is not the way Thai people treat you. This guy was a real pain. Which tour guide says “I will leave you on Island if you don’t come back on time. I don’t care and I don’t come after my customers?” or “You are on your own, don’t expect my staff to help”Also, the other staff was very rude, the boat captain and helpers were behaving as they are the bosses there. At monkey bay, viking cave etc, they didnt even allow us to go on boat front or boat end to take pictures (may be boat balancing stuff, but they could allow people one-by-one OR atleast talk politely with customers).I have uploaded the picture of what was committed to us, and where these frauds actually took us. Also the picture of rude Mr. B and his aggressive staff. In the end, they asked for the tip but they should have reconsidered their behavior and services before asking tip!
I will take blame for not planning out this part of our trip. I am usually a savvy researcher and typically book wisely, but we had a shorter amount of time in Phuket than we originally thought and tried to pack in as much as we could. We booked this instead of spending more money on a luxury catamaran because 1. Who doesn’t like saving money? 2. It sounded like this option would offer us a little more to see for less money. Well, we were fooled. The first moment I realized we had made a mistake was when we noticed the boat seating was low and you couldn’t see out of the windows. Who on Earth books a boat tour of one of the most beautiful islands in the world to not be able to see out of windows? The staff was rude and rushed through everything. This tour was not about giving the PAYING tourists an experience of a lifetime, it was about making sure they cover their agenda as quickly as possible. We spent altogether a total of about 5 minutes seeing the main islands, which we didn’t get to see because the main tour guide didn’t let us move around the boat to take pictures and we were seated in the middle, no where near windows. I can go on and on about how awful this whole experience was. I am grateful to have seen the little bit I did see, but my recommendation to anyone is avoid this horrendous tourist trap and pay more to go the luxury route. I promise you, saving some money is not worth it here.
We took 4 islands 9 points trip, but It was rather a speedboat cruise than island trip, as most of the time that we had was spent on the boat. I did not like the drill and the unfriendly atmosphere that the guide, mr B, has introduced – he threatened to leave you on the island if you are late at least few times. Everything was rushed and afterall we did only 6 out of 9 points without any explaination why.Snorkelling spots were rather poor and equipement was leaky, the islands stops were terrible, designed to force the tourists to spend as much extra money as possible. On the bright side the lunch was ok and the boat was huge, clean and very well maintained.Overall there are better ways to spend time and money on Phuket.
We got the tickets cheaper at a local tour agent (1500 Baht instead of 3200 Baht per person) but if we would have paid the full price, I would feel betrayed. Actually I still feel betrayed. Why? Because these guys skip points which they advertise in their flyers.Let me be clear: You will see nearly nothing from Maya beach (which I guess is a main reason why people book this tour) and you will most properbly skip the beautiful lagoon of Koh Phi Phi Lae entirely and the reason for that is just greed in my opinion. The tour guide “Mr B(e on time or I will leave you on the island)” and his crew do not want to pay the naturepark preserve fee to the park ranger but to keep this money to themselves. Therefore they stay quite far away, so that you can hardly see anything from these iconic places, but they can drive away quickly when the park rangers boat comes closer. And they even think thats cool and clever..”We save your money! 400 Baht for a few photos is too much!” Mr B says, but this is actually not true, because other boats and tours go directly to the borderline of the naturepark preservation zone and their standard prices are as high as the prices of this company. So, those other companies simply do not keep the naturepark fee for themselves.Oh and by the way: if you loose or break one of their cheap “included” snorkeling equipment, they charge you a fee of 1500 Baht! (haha) For that price you can buy at least 12 such sets.So in short: if you want to get what you pay for (iconic scenes that you are looking for and friendly guides), book at a different company. For us, it was more like a waste of money and time, even when we got it cheaper than advertised in the flyer.
First of all: Our Guide „Mr. B“ and the boat team were really great, very helpful and tried to make the best of the trip! Our guide took a lot of nice photos and uploaded them totally for free at the same evening! The reason for my rating is that we booked the trip as a snorkeling trip, but it was rather a „quick tourist photo“ trip than anything else! If you want to go snorkeling, we recommend you to book a trip on a diver boat because they do care about good snorkeling spots and a relaxed day. If you want to take as many photos and selfies as you can of the most famous tourist spots, this trip will fit you great. When we booked the trip, they told us that we would visit 3 snorkeling spots, one of them in the marine national park around phi phi island. It was also stated in the official flyer about the tour. The price for the marine national park fee was (allegedly) included in the tour price. In fact, we did not enter the marine national park because Rak Talay wanted to save the 400 THB per Person. So we just passed maya bay, the monkey beach etc. really quick and always had to run from the marine guard‘s boats. I felt really ashamed of this behaviour and what annoyed me most is that we did not have the opportunity to snorkel in the marine park (this was the main reason why we booked the trip). Again, the team was great and tried to make the best of the day! This is the only reason I rated the trip with 2 points. Rak Talay should think about why they have to give false statements in their flyers.
We booked a day trip with an agency to the Similan islands from the Khao lak area. Be advised published prices are very flexible, do bargain/shop around! We were picked up on time and taken to the welcome area near the boat. There were included breakfast refreshments available but we had already eaten. Our guide was Jay-jay she was great, on that particular trip all of the other passengers were Thai or Chinese but she could switch easily between the languages. We were surprised at the size of the boat for 50 passengers but we all fitted in no problem. Good quality, well maintained high powered speed boat with 3 engines and several crew members. Life jackets and snorkelling gear great.Beware, in my opinion swimming slipperettes are crucial (can buy on the day for 300 baht,) there is a lot of wading through thigh high water to get in and out of boat.We stopped at 2 islands for beach time (take towels, mats etc) and snorkelled straight out of back of boats twice. The water was crystal clear and very warm, plenty of colourful fish to see, and a lot of less colourful coral. Lunch exceeded expectations; a variety of offerings. There was plenty of free water on offer. Fruit and biscuits also handed round. On arrival back there were even more snacks (great fries!) and ice lollies.A word of warning, the similan island beaches are packed with tourists, boat after boat are discharging passengers in scenes reminiscent of Dunkirk!
Tourist trap, boycott.=Its been 2 years they don’t go to Phi Phi and go on Monkey Island beach but they continue to sell it. They only do 2 snorkling points instead of 4..+The trip is only about 40 min speed boat, 5 min pic, 40 min speed boat, pic, etc…Depend about what you are looking for, I wanted to do snorkling..+If you want to take a pic you have to wait because the boat is tiny compare to the number of ppl. There is plenty of other boats so forget about taking good landscape pic.+All people in the boat disapointed about the trip, the boat, the stops, the snorkling.+I go complain with my friends to the office in Chalong. They doesn’t wanted to help. Trying to give the fault to the agence where we take the ticket. But we can see that the agence sell the same programm that there is in the office. So it is their fault. One employee don’t wanted to confess and quit the discussion talking in thaï, certainly insulting… They faked helping us when we said we are going to post bad review. So we left without any compensation..Extremely disapointed.
We book this tour online with BigTourKrabi.com for 1099 TBH advertised as being discounted from 3200 TBH. This is cheap, cheap, the itinerary packs it in but the tour doesn’t deliver. The tour was operated by Rak Talay Travel. The boat is mainly enclosed with no easy access to views. So nothing to see for most people during the trip. It began with a visit to Maiton Island for a quick snorkel from the boat just off a rock face. There were some fishies there. Then it powered on to Phi Phi Leh for some photo opportunities at the named spots but always from a distance. Locations like Maya Beach just flashed by. First landing was at the beach at Phi Phi Don for lunch. Food was edible. An hour after arriving it was all aboard again. Hardly enough time to lunch, go to the washroom and walk Phi Phi Beach let alone sitting down to admire the view or getting to see Loh Dalum Beach just a couple of hundred metres away. Then as we departed Phi Phi Don the tour leader said that snorkelling at a pretty looking beach had to be abandoned because of low tide but that the time will be added at Khai Nai Island, the second and final landing before returning to Phuket. The stop at Khai Nai was two hours. It landed on the beach precisely at low tide. Go figure. Khai Nai is a small island with little if any natural beach side shade. Paid shade is everywhere though. Drinks were available, jet ski hire but not much more. Not much to snorkel for. The tour leader said washroom visits on the island were 30 TBH but was free at sea.If you want to see the Phi Phi Islands National Park then this tour (or any day tour that promises a lot of destinations) is not it. Although the tour information emphasised that “Entry Tickets” were included, not sure what it was that the tour entered. Maiton is a private island but there was no landing there. The landing at Phi Phi Don was probably permitted by the caterers and Khai Nai was really all about the money and not part of the National Park.
The good. Mr B and the crew. Gave instructions and followed through. Great day riding around the islands. Although we were under the impression we’d spend more time at the stops. Mr B took a second pass at Monkey island to see if we’d be able to view a monkey, and we did! The area is very beautiful. The just ok- first the ride in the boat- we were seated so not to be able to see the area around us. The back was open so we could see out that way. I fell we missed a lot of the scenery. Second – lunch. We stopped at island for lunch and the island had a no alcohol policy. Not a big deal but had no idea. The food was mediocre at best. Good thing however was there was plenty of food for those hungry. The bad… ride to and from pier. The driver had flying bugs or fleas in his car. He was a safe driver but still..
We had a great experience when we took the Similan Island Tour! The team was very professional and informative. They were all very nice and helpful. We went to some truly amazing places and some of our favorite islands we visited while in Thailand. Some of the people in our group saw a sea turtle when we were snorkeling and we all saw a big monitor lizard at the lunch location. Lunch was very good and the transportation pick up was punctual. They provided snacks and water on the boat which was great too! We would absolutely book this tour again!
