We had an amazing trip sailing around Phang Nga Bay and the Andaman Sea in a Sunsail 454L catamaran. The boat was new, enormous, and well appointed. We were 4 couples and none of us ever felt crowded. The staff were super helpful. The scenery and sailing was fantastic. After 7 nights we could have kept going on!The only complaint we had was the food provisioning options were extremely limit and pricey, so we did some provisioning through Sunsail, but most of our provisioning the old fashioned way – at the grocery store which was fairly far from the marina.
We recently chartered for 2 weeks with Sunsail Phuket. Everything about the experience was fantastic; the prior arrangements, the reception, the yacht preparation, the briefings and facilities. We did require some technical assistance at one stage, and both Ash and Willy were easy to contact, responsive and thorough.The experience of cruising around Phang Nga Bay was also great. We always felt safe, and the Thai people are extremely friendly and welcoming. The scenery is spectacular and there are dozens of places where you can anchor at resorts, where you can have reasonable priced cocktails and great Thai food.I would recommend Sunsail Phuket to anyone thinking of chartering in a tropical location.
I’ve chartered over 30 boats in the Mediterranean, US, Caribbean, and Canary Islands (usually charter 3-4 times a year). This was the best Sunsail experience I have had to date. The charter base manager Ash was fantastic – it felt much more personal than other Sunsail or Moorings charter experiences I’ve had in the past. He helped me augment my itinerary with local knowledge and my party had a fantastic time. In addition, the boat I chartered was 3-5 years old, but in good shape – kudos to the base staff.The sailing grounds were alright. There were only 2-3 days that had enough wind to get from point a-b (motoring the rest), and I went in January which apparently was jellyfish season – need to be very very careful swimming as the water visibility is 3-5 meters and they are everywhere. That being said, there are tons of anchorages to choose from, and even if you have to motor it’s still better than being stuck on one of those teak tourist boats!Overall, I would highly recommend. It’s not a sailors paradise like the BVIs or Marthas Vineyard, but the vacation as a whole was awesome. It would be a great place to bring novice sailors as wind/surf conditions and short sails between desitnations will let everyone have a good time.

Wanted to thank the Sunsail / Moorings base for a great bareboat charter experience. All on the base were terrific, the yacht was in great condition, everyone was more than helpful, and very quick to respond to any questions we had underway. Special shout outs to Ash (base mgr) and Willy (tech lead / mgr).

All the staff at Sun sail were amazing. The whole experience was made easy, we are used to hiring yachts and have sailed from many ports with many providers of yacht hire. Great week of sailing in a beautiful part of the world, on a comfortable, air-conditioned 44 foot Jeanneau Sun Odyssey monohull. Fantastic anchorages and a good blend of eating in island restaurants and on board barbecues. Great to discover hidden beaches and great snorkeling sites. The boat was well specified, with hot showers, over night air con and comfortable cabins. A bit more pre departure information regarding boat inventory and possible routes would have been helpful.
