She’s wonderful. The recipes are wonderful. The value is wonderful. The market trip is wonderful. Everything’s wonderful!
I absolutely recommend this cooking class. Thip, the chef, is very nice, professional and speaks good english. She was eager to answer all our questions during the market tour and the actual class. At the market you also get a chance to taste lots of different food. She let us choose our favourite recipes and explained every step, suggesting alternatives for those ingredients that are hard to find back home. At the end she gave us a print out of all the recipes we cooked together. A memorable experience!
I attended a Thai cookery course on Koh Mak and spoke very highly of it. So while we were in Ko Pha Ngan my 14 year old son asked if he could attend one. We attended the market and there ingredients were tasted; examined and patiently explained as to what they did to the dishes we were cooking.Once back at the cookery school the instruction was 1st class, humour was light in the group and I felt completely unhurried. There are a few surprises that made the day a bit more special, but I will leave that unspoiled.I would have no hesitation recommending this cookery course and was excellent value for money.
Was a really nice experience! Chef was very friendly and professional and she explained everything to us and used good and understandable english. Went to the market first with her and she bought all the ingredients while explaining to us the uses and did some tasting as well. Would recommend this to anyone and leftovers are given to you in a box which you can eat later.
Had a great time with Thip at My Wok and Me! I can’t wait to take all of the knowledge I gained from this class back home, and make the delicious dishes for my friends/family.The day started with a ride from our hotel to the market with the three other people in my group. We were given a ‘menu’ and told to discuss amongst ourselves and choose three dishes. We then took a trip to the market to gather supplies. It was awesome to have a guide to answer all of our questions (so many exotic fruits and vegetables). Thip also bought things for the group that we were interested in and wanted to try that weren’t part of the three dishes we selected. We then went back to the kitchen – outdoor, so you might want to bring some bug spray – and started to work. Thip’s assistant prepared all of our ingredients on personal trays and we were told exactly what things were and what we were to do with them. Thip was very patient with us (especially those less culinary inclined). I won’t walk you through the whole process (chop-chop-grind-cut-mix-fry), just know that it was very thorough and you’re making almost everything from scratch (the only exception was the spring roll dough, which makes sense due to time constraints).All-in-all, we spent a good four hours with Thip, and I never once was bored or antsy to get it over with.Would highly recommend and can’t wait to take another class next time I’m in Ko Phangan!PS – certain members of our class had very particular food preferences and Thip worked around them and found many ways to provide options for them without affecting the rest of the group.
We loved our day at My Wok and Me. Thip, the chef, looked after us very well, collecting us from our hotel at 10am and dropping us back at 3pm. It was only my husband and I so we chose three dishes we’d like to cook – Pad Thai, Chicken Massaman and Chicken Satay Skewers. Thip took us to the market and went through all the different stands and ingredients and then we headed back to the cooking school. It’s in a rustic setting with lots to see around the smallholding – the cooking area is clean and ingredients fresh. We thoroughly enjoyed making the coconut milk, curry paste however, the portions are generous so we were able to box up our leftovers and take back to the hotel to enjoy for dinner! Very good value. This was a great daytime activity for us as the weather was stormy and we were unable to do much on the beach – definitely worth a visit if you’re in Koh Phangan and enjoy cooking!
We signed up for a half day food carving course at My Wok and Me. When we arrived we saw an enormous amount of food on the table that was definitely for our training. Before starting we had to try some food, a.o. the 4 flavour snack which I cannot remember the name of, but which is delicious. Chef Thip is a lovely and patient woman who showed us what to do. It was so much fun to do and the results were incredible. We have been carving carrots, cucumber, water melon and making roses of tomatoes. Now we need to practice at home.
me and a friend are travelling around thailand and thought we had to join a thai cooking class, and we’re we pleased to! you go shopping to the local food markets and pick the ingredients, all of which are so fresh, to make the three dishes that you choose. we’re vegetarians too and they cater for this, we made spring rolls, pad thai and green papaya salad! it was so interesting learning about the thai culture and being able to make our own thai dishes! would really recommend this to anyone who visits koh phangan!
Today we participated at the tour. It was just perfect!!We started at the market, picking up some vegetables for our meals. After that we started to cook.Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was great!!!
Great cooking class. Thip’s style of helping you decide what to cook then go to the market and learn about the ingredients in Thai cooking was great. There were several chefs and we asked tons of questions. Each of our groups cooked a different curry, a stir fry, a Thai style morning glory and sticky rice with butterfly flowers and mango. We all shared our dishes and learned a ton.
