Last year in 2020 I found myself locked down in Thailand as all flights cancelled and was in country for over six months, and thus I was looking for some different types of recreation. I have fished off and on all by life from native golden cutthroats in Yellowstone in the 1950’s, early fantastic bill fishing in Puerto Vallarta in the 1960’s when there were fish, a season in the wilds of northern Labrador Canada where I worked as a Geologist and where 5 pound Brookies were the norm, and now just maybe a trip to Rainy Lake on the Ontario side where I take the Grandkids for a day and my last trip a 46 inch and 26 pound Northern Pike. And I live on a lake where it is great fishing for Crappies and Walleyes.At any rate I called Hookers and booked a day, and all very seamless and great back and forth on e mails and questions from the owner whose name escapes me now.We arrived on site and most impressed. Great parking, clean and neat facility and they were waiting for us. Sparking new heavy duty gear and the staff was so accommodating and not condescending in any way. They were eager to help and I was soon fishing. And what fishing it was. It was almost non stop for the next 8 hours and at the end of the day I was wiped. I had a grand total of 7 nice large fish, three 50# Catfish, a nice gar, an Asian Carp perhaps 30#, and the king of fishes, two Arapaima’s that were over #300 pounds each. All fish were released in a most caring and lovely manner by the attentive staff which numbered 4 or 5.Great food on site as well as beverages and a most comfortable fishing platform with a small tent as the day had a few showers.The whole experience was most positive and a day well spent. The value was tops and would go again in a heartbeat. And hope to once this Covid is brought to bay, and tourism returns in a normal manner to ThailandI thank the owner and the staff for a day of wonderful thrills and excitement and also one of the greatest value.Jim in snowy and extremely cold northern Minnesota with the temp now minus 18 F below zero.
So those who know me. Know I love to fish. 99% of the time I’m rubbish. I get too anxious when there’s a nibble. I struggle with a bit of patience. But every holiday we go on I do scout for some sort of fishing charter, some some of fishing experience. So this happened as I backed into my tent with a bottle of Chang, and then proceeded to be a VERY long 25 minutes to land this mighty #arapaima which is native to the Amazon. It appears along side @thisisjeremywade in River Monsters season 1 and season 6 (mine is 112kgs so just shy of 250lbs 😬) and only later getting went back to Guyana and caught one that was over 300lbs. You can’t see my hands. I couldn’t get my hands all the way under the middle of it and this massive fish has been on my extremely amateur bucket list forever. I would like to thank Jon and his team @hookers.pattaya who were just so professional. If it’s big that you are after. I dare you to chase their 450lbs Mekong Catfish that has never never been landed. At times like this it’s important to support local. Jon, you are a super host with EXCELLENT staff and the very best bacon sandwich. I couldn’t recommend the experience higher. Today way my day. A lot of luck, I think it was also the left handed reel, I’m right handed, but landed her left handed – maybe it (my left hand) is more useful than I think! The technology to maintain the fish, so careful in the handling, strict #catchandrelease policy. Awesome!!! #hooked
Last week I had one of the best days fishing in my life on this lake. It’s a fantastic setup, the staff are professional and every fish was in perfect condition. I finished the day with 2 Arapaima (lost a third), 4 big Red Tails, a 14.4kg Jullienes Golden Carp and a large Alligator Gar. A big thank you to Jon and the staff. See you again very soon.

John the owner and his staff were very helpful, the fishing was a bit slow on my side of the lake. On the far bank a 240lb arapaima was caught and quite a few other fish. I had a couple of fish but rounded the day of with a 130lb catfish which made it a good day. Will definitely be back.
4 of us visited Hookers fishing lake and had an excellent day!We were given 4 rods and a guide each who worked hard all day to ensure we all caught fish.We ordered lunch from the onsite che who delivered to our swims that were all equipped with shelters and even electric points.I couldn’t recommend this highly enough.
Lake just opening up again after a massive upgrade. We had a day ticket and must say the setup is great. After fishing a few lakes over our two week holiday this was the best setting but worst catching lake we visited. It’s definitely 5 star set up but a boring day on the hook. Value for money was poor. The helpers were great and needed as all the fish were to far away from the pegs to cast to.
Where to start…. me and my best mate have been talking about doing a trip abroad for many years whist regularly fishing in the UK.. 90% of the time cold and stuck in the bivvy! So my mates retired now and he had never been out of the UK, so we got him a passport and and initially only booked Hookers for one day as we didn’t know what fisheries were the best.. we booked onto jurassic for two days after our first day at Hookers also.. So firstly this venue is a different level to the other fisheries we visited. After our first visit we booked a further three days and nights fishingAccommodation was perfect! Lakeside villa newly fitted to high standard, basically open the sliding doors to your raised deck fishing platform and to the side of every villa is your own plunge pool! This is definitely needed in the Thai summer weather..The new restaurant opened whilst we were there so all the food is fresh red hot when it arrives at the fishing villa. You can eat in but for us it was about the fishing.Good selection of Thai and English food.The team from management to the gillies are honestly there at your beckoning call! Simply the answer to everything was yes! Now my mate literally cast his rod maybe twice as he felt confident in trusting the gillies do the majority of casting. He’s retired and after hauling in a big siamese carp the last thing he had the energy to do was re bait and re cast. These guys did everything for him litterally made our holiday. We left them with large tips and both of us feel we have had the plessure of spending some time with decent do anything for you people!Now the part what we actually went for the fishing! First day 400lb ArapaimaSiamese carp to 65lb, 45lb, 40lbAlbino cat 35lbSecond visit 3 Arapaima 300lb, 260lb, 100lbSiamese carp 65lb, 25lb, 35lb, 50lbRed tail catfish 75lbJulian carp 30lb, 35lbThe total for 4 days fishing in excess of 1450lb.. From the first moment meeting the fishing manager Mat East who puts you at ease and explains the lake and its facilities (which are first class), to the time you leave, makes this fishing lake the best and most enjoyable experience I believe you will have. Special mention to Warren and his Thai guides who work not stop to make sure you have the best chance of catching the fish of your dreams. The staff (Cooks, cleaners etc) are all 5 star. I will definitely be going back. Highly recommend 10 out of 10.Terry Smith
