Yak Yai Muay Thai is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 33/83 moo 1 Soi Guan U Shrine, 83130, Thailand
I spent a little over a month training at Yak Yai and had an amazing experience. It’s right off Soi Ta-iad so very easy to get to if you’re staying on or near the Soi. The space is massive, extremely clean, and has all new equipment. The staff at the gym is kind and welcoming, and the coaching is top tier. Training was always so fun regardless of how tired I was, I felt safe but pushed. I learned so much in such a short time from these wonderful coaches, and feel more confident in my Muay Thai skills. Can’t wait to go back :)! I would highly recommend this gym to everyone regardless of where you are in your Muay Thai journey!
Great gym for all levels, trainers are attentive and will help you with anything you need. Facilities are brand new and kept very clean, it’s clear they care about the customer experience and want to make it welcoming and accommodating for anyone who wants to come train. We do different things each day to help with technique and fight-like experiences. I feel like I’ve learned so much since going here. On top of the classes, everyone here is just super nice as well, so it creates a great training environment! Definitely check them out if you are in the area and are looking to learn some Muay Thai from some experienced trainers!
Great place, family vibes, great trainers and cleanest gym. That’s the place to be for all your needs
Let me start by saying I have never attended a Muay Thai class and first time in Thailand. Boyfriend had been communicating with Henry to set up my first training one on one via IG. I was set up with Krew Joo and let me just say he is amazing in teaching and at no point did I feel intimidated which I was worried about at first. The gym is very clean as well as the showers and bathrooms. ALL the trainers are amazing. Week 1 done and we feel right at home here. I love that we get to work with all the trainers in each session it definitely helps to learn from each individual. This gym is perfect for all levels of experience in Muay Thai!
Great spacious space just off of the busy fitness street in phuket (soi ta-ied). Very friendly and welcoming coaches, I’ve only been for one class currently but will be back again. It’s a fairly new gym and I can imagine this will continue to grow
I’ve tried out many fight gyms in Phuket but Yak yai surpasses them by far. Really great coaches and lots of personal attention. I’ll definitely come back here to prepare for a muay thai fight.
Muay Thai has been an integral part of my life for the better part of a decade, thus when the opportunity arose to spend 3 weeks training in Thailand, I wanted to make sure I picked a gym that would provide me with the instruction and facilities to push my skills to the next level. Yak Yai Muay Thai has exceeded these requirements in the best ways imaginable.KC and Henry were incredibly welcoming, upfront in their expectations of both their Krus, as well as the mindset and conditioning required of the students in class. Every day greeted us with creative but challenging conditioning, from running ladders, power knee sets against the bags, cardio circuits, the goal was to push but never get bored. We also never knew if we were going to start with clinching, padwork, or sparring, and there was never a dull moment in class. The Krus were first-rate. Kru Big, Kwanchai, Jackie, Nu, Joo, and Boat watched our every movement on and off the pads, and very quickly I found the regimens and combos I was being asked to practice were adapting to target my weaknesses and bad habits while highlighting the more formidable of my existing skills to best compliment my fighting style. To my delight, my padwork rounds became increasingly more difficult and complex as each Kru were able to utilize their specialties and preferences to sharpen or test me. If you are serious about honing your skills, I definitely recommend reaching out to the gym for privates as well, as they will listen to what you want to work on, and then assign you a Kru that specializes in those areas to perfectly compliment your needs. As a bonus, since I was regularly training with them for weeks, the Krus who were assigned the private with me would actually pay specific attention to my movements during padwork and carry over their observations on what they wanted to work on into my private. To underscore, this is not the same experience I received from training and taking privates at other gyms prior. The Facilities are clean, spacious, and, well-ventilated. KC and Henry make it a very clear point that we rinse off before clinching, and all gym equipment is meticulously cleaned and maintained after each use. This level of attention of detail is reflective of the love and respect every member of this gym puts towards both what they do and the art of Muay Thai.Yak Yai was my home for three weeks, and what had started as a once in a lifetime experience had me quickly reconsidering if I wanted to return again in the future to take a fight under their banner. I already dearly miss KC and Henry, the Krus, and the gym. YAK YAI!
CLEAN AS F*CK facility Absolutely top notchWell organized and all the coaches hold incredibly well ????????. They meet you at your level, so if you’re new, they break it down, make it simple BUT clear to understand. And give you that proper recovery as you adapt to the Thailand heat if you’re not used to it ?If you’re a bit more advanced then they’ll push you and clean up and make you work as needed or wanted. Energy from start to finish was ON point. Owners and the crew of coaches all have solid and fun energy, paired correctly with that knowledge base and push. What to expect? Nice little warmup, conditioning set and some mobility work followed by three sections; 1. Pad work with coaches; you switch and work with each one per round which is nice to get a different feel. But again, they ALL hold really well. And if you’ve been doing this sport for a while you know that this makes a SOLID difference in REALLY getting the most out of your visiting time in the motherland of Muay Thai 2. Bag work; this is obviously self paced and you can go as hard as you want. Many different totes of bags. The facility is MASSIVE. And again, SO clean. 3. Sparring; again based on your level so don’t stress. But you should have shin guards, so make sure to bring that. And mouthguard ofcourse. No need to bring sparring gloves, they have their one for you to use, 20 oz! Wild. Well fitting. Afterward clinching, and again adjusted based on your comfort. The crowd was chill, no ego, worked with a variety of experience levels. Coaches are there watching and giving feedback on ways to block, counterHIGHLY recommend. And you can shower there. Bring your own little plastic durable bag and towel, like I do so you’re not letting it get your bag all wet or messy, get all properly cleaned up, and you’re good to go.
One of the best places I have ever trained. If you’re looking for a place to train in Thailand, definitely come through Yak Yai Muay Thai. The training is incredible and everyone from the Krus, staff and owners are all knowledgable, welcoming and caring. When you come in, you feel like this is a place that cares about you as a person and a martial artist, instead of a place that is just in it for the money. All of the Krus are highly experienced and know exactly how to push you to get better. They’re also adept at training people of all levels. During my time there we had students of all levels, from pro fighters to people who were starting Muay Thai for the first time. Everyone was welcome and everyone was pushed to bring their best each session. The facility is also well taken care of. Definitely one of the cleanest gyms I have been to.I trained for 2 weeks along with my sister and her husband. We loved it so much, that on our last day we scheduled a private with all the Krus and brought our parents to train too.Now that I’m back in the states, I miss Yak Yai so much, but will definitely be back soon.
Amazing and helpful staff for those new to Muay Thai! Great facility and clearly a range of experienced to amateur fighters. A great workout and will not disappoint!
