  1. We did a cookery class in Chiang Mai on a previous vacation 2 years ago – this was very different. We wanted a private class and to choose the dishes to cook. In this class we were able to cook 4 dishes. Arm picked us up from the hotel and we visited a local market to buy the ingredients for those dishes. He then took us back to his house where he taught us to make each of the dishes. After we had cooked each dish we sat down with Arm to eat it before cooking the next one. Arm was a good teacher and very friendly. I would defintely recommend the private class if you have previous experience cooking Thai dishes before (as we did). The price for 2 people was not much more than his group classes and well worth it to be able to have the class tailored to your needs.

  2. So happy we chose to cook with Arm! Just four of us, with Arm and his mother. A stop at the market for ingredients, then back to his home to cook. We made amazing food, can’t wait to try it at home using the cookbook Arm sent us home with. Truly wonderful experience, highly recommend!

  3. This was the best cooking class I’ve ever taken. Arm (Nitipong Moong-njern), the instructor, is a culinary school graduate who worked in a 5* restaurant but chose the more intimate setting of his home for teaching. He picked us up at our hotel and then took us and another couple to a morning produce market. There he explained what we were seeing, informing us how to pick produce at its peak, as he picked out the foods we were going to learn how to cook. He’s Eco-conscious, bringing his own containers and returning the little plastic bags offered by the venders. His house is adequately equipped with six burners in the kitchen even though he specializes in group sizes from 2 to 4. His helper prepped all the food and cleaned up afterwards. We each made our version of the six or seven on the menu which is so much better than being part of a team and only knowing a part of the process. Arm is a great teacher, demonstrating techniques before expecting us to do them. He was always near, offering feedback and assistance in the most positive way. He’s traveled around Asia sampling other cuisines, and he asks interested, friendly questions of us. Often there is a little chuckle to his language revealing to me a happy, contented person. At the end, he gave us his full color cookbook which we will treasure. A day well spent in ChiangMai!

  4. We had a great day with Arm at the Small House cooking school – he was knowledgeable, great company, and made us feel very welcome. A really memorable experience!

  5. our day started with a drive to the local market to pick up ingredients for our food-full day.. Arm did a great job explaining the different ingredients & how to pick them. then a quick drive later we were at a Small House Cooking School.. Arm was well prepared and had things ready for us to go. it was a fun, instructive, and hands-on cooking class..We cooked classic Thai dishes and all the dishes were delicious. We enjoyed our 4 courses and some exotic fruits (like dragon fruit and guava) that we had never tried before. There were only 3 of us, It was a really fun day & would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a small group/private cooking class from a trained chef ?.We can’t wait to make some of these dishes again!

  6. A great day cooking with Arm in his house. We made some tasty dishes and came away very full and content, glad to have tried a variation of Thai foods. Great value for money and a lovely person/business to support.

  7. This lovely cooking class offers small groups the chance to make authentic Thai cuisine. Taking maximum group sizes of 4 people, you’re really able to get a first hand experience of making the meals. Arm was really nice and friendly and picked us up from our hotel before driving us to the market to collect our ingredients that we would need to make the food. He was very knowledgeable of all the foods and answered any questions we had. When making the food we were able to take our time and really got to enjoy the entire experience in full without it feeling rushed which was great. At the end of the class we were given a booklet with all the recipes that we could make at home, which was a really nice thing to take away at the end of the morning. I would highly recommend this class to anyone and would definitely go back to again if I ever came back to Thailand!

  8. We spent a really good Day. Arm made us discover the market and the products. Then we prepared the differents dishes. Everything was amazing and arm explained very well every step of the préparation. Thanks !!!

  9. This Thai cooking class was one of my favourite experiences in my two-week trip to Thailand. Arm was a fantastic teacher — I’m not a very good cook but he was very patient and helped me avoid mangling the mangoes and messing up the massaman. We made five dishes, including my favourite comfort food (pad thai) and my new favourite, khao soi. The recipes (which Arm gave us afterwards) were straightforward and the food tasted delicious. The setting, in Arm’s house, a little outside the city, was very relaxed and I also enjoyed the visit to the local market where we stocked up on ingredients. There were three of us in the group and there’s a maximum of four, so we got very personalised teaching.

  10. This was one of the best experiences we had in Chiang Mai! Arm is a very knowledgeable guide and very welcoming. The small groups ensure personalized attention and he was able to answer all of our questions and satisfy some curiosities (like tasting durian!). HIGHLY RECOMMEND this experience if it fits in your itinerary. Very unique experience and being welcomed to his home and garden. 10/10

  11. Outstanding experience. We had an amazing experience at the market buying food. Then we made 8 different dishes. Arm took the time to explain how to make each one, and we hope to make it again at home for our family. You get to try everything so maybe skip breakfast! Really the best.
