We visited this wonderful elephant sanctuary today and were so impressed by everything we saw. Our guide, Tony ‘the monkey’, was excellent in describing all we were seeing and doing in very good English. The 4 elephants looked very relaxed and content, each had its own handler who clearly cared for the each of them. We prepared the banana’s for them and then fed them which was amazing. They certainly eat well but are really gentle when you are feeding them Next we shared a mud bath with them which also provided an exfoliating scrub!!Finally down to the stream for a bath together which was incredible. Tony then took us down to a nearby waterfall which was lovely to relax before the journey back. Before we came here we both wanted an elephant experience but were concerned about how well the animals are treated. This Sanctuary and our lovely guide Tony gave us an experience never to forget. Book here and you won’t regret it.
Very fun to feed, mud and wash the elephants! All the elephants are in good hands. They dont do rides and know how to treat the animals correctly. Really something you should do during your holiday
The day started off with the sanctuary picking us up. It was a nice drive out to the mountains where they explained what we’re going to be doing with the elephants all day. The first thing we did when we got there after a short walk was changing to appropriate clothing as you get pretty dirty with the elephants. After that we helped prepare the bananas and sugarcane to be fed to the elephants. After we washed them we were taught a few Thai phrases in order to communicate effectively. We then went to feed the elephants, which as you can imagine was amazing! Afterwords we were able to give them a mud bath and clean them in the river. We then enjoyed a delicious variety of Thai meals After the day was done then we said goodbye to the elephants were brought to a beautiful waterfall for some nice cliff jumping and swimming. Overall it was a really great day and it’s very evident that the sanctuary cares deeply for their elephants and treats them in such a way. I could not recommend this more, five stars does not seem like enough .
You will be happy with our bunch!!We had an amazing time here! Very friendly staff; thank you Chin for taking such good care of us. They treat the elephants with respect and it was a wonderful experience. Truly a family of people who care about their business and customers. Highly recommended!
Had an early start. But it was well worth it. Van drove us an hour from Chiang Mai to the sanctuary. Spent plenty of time with the elephants which came and went as they pleased. (It is an up close encounter so you really get to recognise their faces by the end). Many positive review say all that needs to be said about the encounter. We (including kids aged 6 &8) especially enjoyed the ‘mud spa’, the cliff jumping (~4m) and the pace of the encounter – we spent plenty of time with the animals naturally moving from one activity to the next without any sense of rush. Kids slept in the van back => they loved it!
Most memorable experience. No riding on elephants. You get to bathe with them and feed them. Rangers at the sanctuary are also very knowledgeable and share their wisdom with the tourists. I also love how the elephants just step in and out of the one enclosure that they have. They roam freely and are only directed by food. Loved this experience!
Experience has been perfect, very good attention from the team, long time with the elephants, a lot of pictures taken by the staff and very good food. We have found a very good cared elephants being them and their confortability the main focus in all of the activities.
We did the overnight stay with Pongern Elephant Family and it was such an amazing experience. Woke up to the elephants around camp and had breakfast with them. Over the 2 days we visited various waterfalls and were able to swim in a couple of them. The evening meal was delicious and we played games round a campfire and had coconut rice cooked in bamboo for dessert! The owner was so lovely and welcoming and you can tell he had a real passion for his 4 elephants (one of which was pregnant so he will soon have 5!). Would recommend this experience to anyone! A definite must if you’re visiting chiang mai!Only tip I would give is to bring warm clothes to sleep in as it gets chilly at night. We visited on 21st January 2023
Unbelievable experience getting up close and personal with the elephants, you get so much time with the elephants on both days if you do the 2 day 1 night which is definitely worth doing over the one day. The host was amazing and his passion for the welfare of his elephants. Also our guide through the jungle was excellent. Could not have asked for a better 2 day experience!!
It was an awesome day. Eddie, from “better than nothing” tours hooked us up. We took a boat ride down the Koh river to the elephant sanctury. We walked thru the jungle. I am 70, not in the best shape. And I was able to do it. They went slow and were very attentive. Helped our group of 6. We played with the elephants, fed them banana’s and sugar cane swam in the water with them. Had a wonderful lunch, chicken soup, vegetables. Sticky rice, and eggs. With seasonal fruit for dessert Way 2 much food but very good.i would certainly do this again. You should too.
