Island Yoga is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Ulmar's Nature Lodge 4/10 Moo 4, Tha Khao, Koh Yao Noi, 82160, Thailand
Rachel has changed my life with her yoga teachings. She is such a kind soul and I will use her classes for the rest of my life!
i had the best time ever there. Rachel is absolutely incredible and the class i took is one of the best i’ve ever had. And I’ve been doing yoga all my life. Thank you Island Yoga studio, you have given me bliss and memories to last a lifetime. I will for sure be returning
My husband and I did a week long yoga retreat at Island Yoga on Koh Yao Noi, Thailand. The yoga instruction was outstanding, there were four regular instructors and two levels beginning and intermediate/advanced in two separate rooms. Meditation practice was incorporated into each lesson, one lesson was from 7:30-9:30 each morning, the other from 4:00-5:30 in the late afternoon. Sunrise Tai Chi was offered on the beach each morning at 6:15. A beautiful Thai buffet was available after the first class for those staying at Island Yoga. The facilities were very nice, clean and well maintained. Yoga equipment was provided. There are two on-site cafe’s, one Vegan/Vegetarian the other traditional Thai food, both were excellent, although a little more expensive than food in town. Classes started on-time and ended on-time, late arrivals were not permitted. There are two reasons that I didn’t give a 5 rating. The temperatures on this Island are warm 80 degrees Fahrenheit at night and 90 plus degrees Fahrenheit in the day. Coming from an area where our highs are in the 40’s, it was very hot. The yoga instructors would turn the fans off, and this made the room very uncomfortably hot, especially in the afternoon. The other issue I had was with the Tai Chi. the setting was magical and I wanted to learn, but never having done it before there was a one day beginning lesson, then we were put into the advanced class. The other problem I had, being hard of hearing i needed to hear the Tai Chi instructors voice and he moved around a lot and often faced the ocean, and it was impossible to hear the cues. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this yoga retreat. Great instruction, nice facilities and excellent food.
This place is very special! The atmosphere at this place is very nice and the staff is unusual welcomming. Altso the other guest are very nice and contribute in a perfect way to the pleasent atmosphere at this place. We came as yoga beginners and felt in love with the yoga practise immediately. We stayed one week at this place and afterwards we were moving on to a more luxery resort at the same Island. But after 3 days at the luxery resort we missed the yoga practise and the nice atmosphere at Island Yoga so much, that we changed our plans and moved back to Island Yoga to spend the last couple of days at our vacasion. We didn’t regret our decision at all! Thank you so much to David, Betty, Dimitri and Antonella for making our yoga experience so special and to Ning, Sin and the rest of the staff for making the homely and cosy atmosphere. We will definately continue the yoga and meditation practice in our everyday life after we have discovered how much is affect the body and the mind in a possitive way.
I had an unforgettable time on the Yoga Island. The teacher (adcanced lessons) are really professionell and challenging and I learnd new positions and breath technices. The athmosphere is very familiar and after a week it feels like home. There are a lot of interesting workshops, the breakfast is really tasty, the dorm is really good (with ac and 4 fans, two bathsrooms) and the island is also very cute und calm. I will definetly come back again♡
Marcello and Mariana are such great teachers. We had an amazing time staying at Island Yoga and really enjoyed their classes. Marcello knows how to push you in the gentlest way and Mariana brings such peace and tranquility to the classes. And let’s not forget Liu and Ning (I hope I spelled this correctly) two such helpful, kind and welcoming ladies. They even organised a cake for my sister on her birthday. 🙂 We absolutely loved our stay and will no doubt be back!
We were only at Island Yoga for 2 nights but it was wonderful! The cabins are spacious and nicely done. The hammock on the front porch was so cozy and the perfect place to relax. The breakfast (provided) and lunch (for purchase) was delicious. I especially loved the sweet cats who would hang out with us during mealtime ❤️I took a flow class, meditation and restorative class when I was there and every class pulled me in an I totally lost track of all time. Exactly what you need in a yoga retreat!Liu who worked at reception and gave us the orientation was one of the most lovely people I’ve ever met. All the things that make Thailand so special.Koh Yao Noi is quiet and unspoiled ❤️
Tourists and clients should think twice before visiting this yoga centre for several reasons. I was a facilitator for three events in this yoga centre. There were 25 participants totally. The owner of the studio did not pay the agreed fees for my events though, I learnt the owner had already collected fees from 25 participants. This was not good of the owner to treat a facilitator who had conducted the events under trust. It was breach of trust. Owner also did not render any help for lodging and food, such kind of centres should not be patronised.
I did the Yoga Vacation program of 5 days and I had the best time. I chose it because of the Tai Chi lessons on the beach with the sunrise and I gained so much more (and fell in love with Tai Chi at the same time!). The retreat is well located on the island and in a quiet spot .There are 2 yoga sessions a day (1h30 morning & 2h afternoon) and in the morning before the first session is a guided meditation class, where I found help with my solo meditation practice. All yoga lessons with the 5 different teachers (Marcello, Lucy, Mariana, Nash & Molly-Rose) were all wonderful – I had only known one type of Yoga before and now I have discovered and practiced so many more and my body felt so well at the end of the week. These class were all-level and you get many occurrences that the teachers give you the different levels to practice at your level – and improve if that is your wish.It was one of the best weeks of my life so thank you to all the staff and I hope to come back very soon!If you are open to new experiences and wish to take care of yourself, go at your own pace and find some inner peace, this experience is for you!
As a therapeutic massage therapist for over 35 years my primary concern is my clients comfort and wellbeing. On their arrival there is always filtered water available while I listen to their needs and wishes. The massage table is warm and comfortable, the face rest adjustable and the temperature of the room set for the client’s needs. I create a bespoke treatment which is balanced and appropriate for the client that day. Sadly none of this was on offer at Island Yoga. The therapist felt nervous and appeared inexperienced. She talked continuously through the treatment telling me what she was going to do next and then changing her mind. She was unable to drape correctly for my comfort and to keep my bare skin out of the blowing A/C. I lay on a hard massage table with no adjustable face rest. There was no water offered. I was there for over 2 hours with most of that time spent on my right hip and lower back – eventually I asked her to stop as I feared over work on this set of muscles would cause irritation and pain. When I got up from the session I was not asked how I felt – the therapist just walked off. When I asked her the best way to return to the road, I was given a cursory wave “that way”. On leaving Island Yoga my back was in spasm and the pain in my lower back got more and more intense. This treatment was supposed to help my back when in fact it is now worse than ever. A truly bad experience and extremely expensive to boot!
I went mainly for the meditation aspects of the retreat however it did mostly focus on yoga. There was two sessions a day for about 1 1/2 – 2 hr the sessions focused on different styles. There was a large chalk board with weeks programme laid out. The morning started with Qgong / ti-chi on the beach at. 6 ish finishing about 7 at 7:30 there was a chanting / meditation 30 min. The second yofa session was at 4pm. The times were not precise because the program changed for each day. There were extra session at a cost. There were were trips available – visiting islands or kayaking but these were not pushed and if there was not enough people putting their name down it did not run.To the nitty gritty The teaching staff were excellent at Island yoga kind, helpful covering from no skills to ‘ experts’ the classes were held in a couple of halls., with fans and a/c There was support props such as cushions, bolsters straps etc available. Breakfast buffet was provided mostly Thai style but with healthy European options, fresh fruit & toast. The tea was green which for me was not what I would go for however I had my own M&S tea bags. Coffee was also available. Breakfast was after the yoga session at 9:30. Outside breakfast food was available from the ‘yogie cafe or Thai Kitchen which sat next to each other in the lounge / eating area. The food was very good and reasonably priced in my view. There was no alcohol on sale, but this was not unusual on the island with often restaurants not selling any. However just outside 1/2km was an alcohol shop. The food in the retreat was far better than any I tried in outside restaurant. The staff woking in the cafe / kitchen were very good but got a bit overwhelmed at times. The carrot cake was home made and delicious. The reception staff were very helpful and other staff friendly. Now the not so good part. The grounds need some tlc not enough sign posts especially at night – I got lost in the dark and I was not the only one. The paths are ‘rustic’ sometimes stopping abruptly at a fence which have walk round and in through a gap. The swimming pool area has very damaged sunshades in fact I was not sure what they were. Housekeeping to say it was a disappointment is an understatement my ‘hut ‘ went without cleaning for 2 days on the trot. I complained I was told it is every other day. I was not happy with this and was told it be every day. – it was not. I stayed for 10 days and my bed covers was not changed once. I booked a ‘comfort’ hut – well it did have a kettle. The bed was ok just. In the rainy season when mosis are about it would have been dreadful as there were number of holes in the wooden walls / floor. You did get a mosi net for the bedThere was better accommodation but needs to be booked well in advance. There was always guests coming and going so it was difficult to establish a community feel. Most people were friendly. Generally it was younger people. In there 20-30s ladies more than men. Should mention the very good beach. Generally unspoilt. Would I go back – yes but in better accommodation.
