I thought this was a great way to see the “real” Bangkok, although it also took in some of the key sites – including Wat Arun and Wat Po (quieter and more atmospheric by night). Brilliant for solo travellers – the tour went ahead even though I was the only person booked on! The bike was pretty new and well serviced and the guide (Jimmy?) treated me to snacks and drinks on the way round – he’s also a key photographer, so there were plenty of photo opportunities!
We had a local tour guide called Jay and she rocks. We discovered the back alleys, markets and temples of Bangkok away from the touristy crowd and also the hustle and bustle of the city.I cannot recommend more this visit and the guide, Jay.They are also very honest and rigorous (and reimbursed us because of the kids discount for example)
I booked this “Bangkok by Bike” tour via Urban Adventures/Intrepid already a couple of months in advance. It turned out that the tour sold by Urban Adventures is actually the “Historical bike tour” from “Velo Thailand” which I can highly recommend to book it directly with Velo Thailand! As my tour started at 9am on the morning of New Years day, I was the only attendant. My guide, Jay, welcomed me at my hotel and brought me to the bike shop. The bike I used was good quality, quite new and well serviced, together with a helmet.Jay led me from Banglamphu through back streets to the small villages in the outskirts of Bangkok, to the west of Chao Phraya river. She explained that this used to be the capital of the Kingdom of Thonburi, when we fed the fish at some temple alongside the many canals. We continued to see some more Wats and visited the flower market after crossing the river by ferry. Afterwards, we had a coffee at a really stylish location. Jay showed me some spots of Bangkok that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise and she gave me many insights to this unique mixture of history, Buddhism and normal people’s lives in her society. We returned to the bike shop around 2:30pm.Jay is a fantastic tour guide and impressed me with both her knowledge and her passion for her job. She answered all my questions, adjusted the tour to my wishes – as it was just her and me – and made it fun and safe to cycle around Bangkok. I can clearly recommend the tour!
A great way to see the historical side of Bangkok, away from the traffic and noise. My guide was super, well informed and fun to be with. I enjoyed the temples and her knowledge about their history.I went on a morning tour and by lunchtime I was fairly overcome with the heat and humidity. Be ready!
It was a varied route. In the beginning we crossed the Chao Praya river and made a short visit to the beautiful Wat Arun temple. I could even make a complete visit if I wanted. We then followed a zigzag tour through green countryside-like Thonburi on narrow concrete footpaths, along little canals and little houses, and occasionally a temple. At many places you could halt at the top of a steep little bridge and have a picturesque view of its surroundings. Oh, and all that fish!Jae and Van were very friendly and helpful and willing to inform me about everything, or to indulge particular wishes, like visiting a plant nursery. If you like bicycling, I really recommend it!Hans (The Netherlands)
Good bikes, good and friendly guide, off the beaten track tour through Bangkok. The organization is run by local people.
Our guide do a perfect cycle tour in different parts of Bangkok. We see a lot of local things. Very friendly guide, we recommend 😊
We did the full day Bangkok Shore by Bike tour and had an amazing experience! It was exactly what we wanted – an opportunity to get out of the city, breathe some fresh air, get some exercise (we rode 33km, mostly flat), and see the Gulf of Thailand. Our guide Jackie picked us up at our hotel & we were driven about an hour south of town before we stopped and got on our bikes. The first half was a lovely ride through a mangrove forest with a stop to see how the Thai people are reforesting the seaside to protect against storms. The ride was mostly flat and along a concrete path. There was a nice place to stop and see the Gulf of Thailand before heading to a local fishing village for lunch. We had a huge, 7-course lunch with locally-caught seafood at a beautiful outdoor restaurant next to the water. Lunch was included in the tour cost which we didn’t realize at first, but we appreciated. On the way back we stopped at a salt farm to see how salt is harvested from the sea water. It was very interesting and the owner was proud to show off her farm and the finished salt products. We finished the tour with a visit to a shrine for a Thai hero. It was a neat story and the first time we saw a shrine decked out with plastic roosters (offerings for the hero). Overall, the experience was wonderful and a terrific value for your Baht. The only thing to be aware of is a portion of the ride is along a back road where people live and there are a lot of dogs (some domesticated, some feral packs) that would bark/growl as we rode (slowly) by. Our guide kept us safe and calm and we didn’t have any issues but as someone that is scared of dogs from past bad experiences, it was frightening. I only mention this to be aware. I still highly recommend this trip and our guide Jackie was a wonderful host and fountain of knowledge!
Have you ever slalommed your bike through the endless back-alleys of Bangkok at night time? Or (literally) cycled through the stalls of the indoor flower market? If not, you should definitely book the historical Bangkok night ride tour with Velo. Our guide Jay took us, a family of four, through all the nooks and crannies of old Thonburi town, the flower market, and Chinatow. She shared her knowledge of the city, its culture, religion and inhabitants. This trip was both insightful and very fun to do.We are grateful to Jay that she took us around Bangkok! And we recommend this trip to anyone.
