I first visited Adhere the 13th after reading the good reviews. Flew to Bangkok and got myself a room within walking distance to Adhere the 13th. I went pass to survey the place late in the afternoon after checking in to my hotel. First impression was one of disappointment. It was just a small intermediate shop unit no more than 20 feet wide. Looking in, it was even smaller than what I imagined. With the bar occupying the back part of the shop, there was only about 30 feet left for the band and patrons. I took two flights to reach Bangkok. Considering that effort spent to get to Bangkok, I went back around 9.00 pm local time and stayed on until the Bar closed. And I kept going 3 nights in a row including the New Year Countdown! There are enough reviews about the great music, the beautiful atmosphere, the friendly patrons who came from all over the world. During my last visit in June 2017, their air-conditioning was down. But the blues experience was still very much alive. Will definitely keep going back to this place. Just hope it continue to operate.
I wish you could upload videos to TA! The place is small and cozy and the music is just awesome. The crowd is a mix of locals, expats and travelers. Cocktails are very fairly prices, beer is a bit more expensive compared to other places but well worth it if you get to attend a live performance.
If they don`t have Billy Bloomer….UGH! Otherwise it is the best place for blues and we found it due to our dear, now departed , friend Andy ….Although we miss him, we go to Adhere for the uncomparable vibes and to see his face on the wall, and to get som excellent Blues Jamming -Banglamphu Blues Band!!!
Nice, small & intimate. Unfortunately, the Thai musicians that I saw here don’t have much knowledge or respect for American Old School Blues and prefer to go off in their own arty little art school, poetry readings rants rather than just play some decent, smokey Blues. However, I was fortunate to see an older British guitarist & singer playing solo Old School Blues & he was amazing. He did a killer version of “On Broadway” and I went back a few times just to see him ( I don’t know his name?). Other than that, it’s Russian Roulette who you get to see play that night. Thai Blues is instantly forgettable. But maybe you’ll get lucky like I did…
Whilst in Bangkok I would highly recommend a visit to this bar. It has a great atmosphere and even better music! It’s very small but that just adds to the character. The bar is a very mixed crowd with travelers and locals and it’s in close proximity to the famous Khao San Road. If you like live music and a venue that has a good vibe this place is for you!
I have been going there and playing with fantastic Thai and foreign musicians visiting for the past 10 years. It has resulted in collaborations and friendships around the globe. DON’T miss it! Generous jam possibilities if you are a competent musician.
Pity I have to deliver this review because I came here thanks to the amazing Bangkok podcast guys and I’m sure their experience here was great.Unfortunately not our case (we are a couple). We ordered a bottle of Sangsom rum (that is actuales called whisky in Thailand) and the waitress just brought two mixed Sangsom cola drinks. The when I asked where our bottle was, they said I only ordered two mixed drinks (Sangsom doesn’t even exist on the menu as glass alone) and charged me for two glasses plus the bottle, which was almost double of the price of what I ordered very clearly in the first place. If you anyways decide to come at your own risk, be very aware one of the waitress (of more) will try to fool you and trick you. Destroying a great probably deserved reputation for a few baths is really not the way to go and survive long term.
We moved from Chicago a few years ago and needed a little dose of “Blues”. The Adhere the 13th didn’t disappoint. As good if not better than some of the Chicago clubs with great service, awesome atmosphere and great bands. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in Bangkok.
