Arrived in Ko Samui on Aug 6th and wanted to see both Koh Tao and Ang Thong. The only problem – we had no prior reservations and all the top rated diving/snorkeling operators on Tripadvisor were fully booked ! August it turns out, is busy season in Ko Samui, unlike our previous destination Phuket. Decided to take a walk to Bophut Fishermans Village.Saw the sign for “France Plongee” who I recalled seeing on Tripadvisor earlier .They only had 2 reviews, both in French and so had skipped right past them .Eric, the owner was at the shop. He took a quick look at his reservation list for the next day and after a brief look of consternation on his face , said we can join the next days group to Ko Tao!Eric and his team which includes his son and daughter were great ! My apprehensions about language been a problem were unfounded in the end. We were the only non-french speaking guests , which kinda made it bit boring to be honest , but the crew made sure they explained everything in English as well. The boat was a nice 3 engine ~39 footer. The snorkeling equipment provided was in good condition. The food during lunch, especially the curry, was simple but delicious ! Fresh fruits, water, soda etc all provided ! Including the 4 of us ( 2 adults, 2 kids) there were about 17-18 guest on the boat. I have a feeling Eric did us huge favor by accommodating us at the last minute ! Snorkeling – bear in mind that the primary focus of any operator, if you go snorkelling with a diving group is…….the divers ! Something to keep in mind if you are not very comfortable in the water been by your self. This wasn’t a problem with us, even though I can’t swim. Just grab a life vest and GO ! Our first stop was in shallower waters close to a beach. Next stop was a short ride to the other side of the same island in deeper waters. Both sites seemed excellent to me. Lots of amazing corals and fish. All in all, a great day, especially considering we almost had to do the tour as part of those mass tiirish boat trips where they cram 40-50 people on a boat !Once again, a big thank-you to Eric ! Don’t let the lack of too many reviews discourage you from giving France Plongee a chance ! If you are anywhere near the Bophut area, call them. You will not be disappointed.
I paid a 1000 baht deposit to go for a dive with them to Sail rock the next day, they had said pick up and drop would be arranged, the next day they did not come by for the pick up and refused to answer phone calls, when I did get through to them they said you can come and pick it up, when I got to the shop they had locked it and said that they would not give any reimbursement. Would not recommend diving under any circumstances.
We did 2 trips with these guys being Koh Tao and Sail Rock. The dive sites themselves were limited for us due to rough conditions. Koh Tao I would not bother again, fairly ordinary vis and not a whole lot of life to see. Sail rock on the other hand is awesome. Fantastic vis, lots of life and the main attraction, whale sharks. The hire dive gear provided was good (no computers in guage sets though) and the dive staff were friendly. The boats are not on a great standard when comparing to Australia. No safety briefing re life jackets etc, no headcount on and off the boat (Australia learned by leaving divers on the reef!). I could not see any marine radios or EPIRB on board but there may have been something hidden away.Additionally the two boats we went on both had engine issues. On day one we went on their smaller alloy boat and the hydraulics on the 250hp motor had failed resulting in the crew having to pull it up with ropes. On the second day we went on the larger fibregless Blade Runner which had 3 250hp engines but only 2 would start. This meant a side trip to the smaller alloy boat to steal a starter motor from it to get the third motor to run.Overall both trips went well from a diving perspective but i was a little concerned with the boats. Were whale sharks worth it, hell yes!
Booked with France Plongée a little last minute over the phone (I called at 6pm to dive the next day) but they were right away very nice and friendly. I was picked up on time (7:15am) at my hotel and driven to the office which is right by the pier where the boat leaves. Boat is huge (but not crowded, about 15-20 ppl) and comfortable (it even has toilets). There is lots of water onboard and (a very good) lunch is served between dives. The equipment was already on the boat (I didn’t have to move a finger to get it there!) and is in great shape.Took us about an hour to go to Sail Rock. I dived with another guy and the dive master who was knowledgeable and very considerate. We dived twice in Sail Rock and although the visibility was pretty bad,I had a blast each time! It was my first time swimming through so many schools of fishes, felt like in an aquarium! After a boat ride of about an hour, I was dropped off at my hotel around 2pm which allowed me to enjoy the rest of the day by the beach. Overall great fun, great value for money and I will definitely come back so I can eventually see a whale shark.. looking forward to diving with France Plongée again!
I discovered “France Plongée” by chance. Stranded on Ko Samui, I said why not go back to diving. I was welcome by Sébastien who took care to explain the philosophy of the Club and foremost spent time to listen and understand my expectations. Never I felt his longing to sell lessons or baptism at any cost, but rather his desire to share my passion. So I turned to a PADI Open Water because I wanted to start again from the beginning despite the fact that I already had a CMAS *. The dives of my OPW session were made by Pascal, owner / partner of France Plongée. And there the alchemy immediately took. Pascal is a naturally pleasant person who puts you at ease, pleasant to relax because for some it is the first dive, explains the course of the dives in a very professional way, adapts to the divers they are adults, adolescents or very young, describes you with a lot of passion what we could see underwater …. in a word he is a person who is both extremely kind, very professional and who really takes care of his students. I successfully passed my Padi Open Water Diver then I continued with my Padi Advanced Open Water and my Rescued … which I succeeded. Pascal was not satisfied with passing me my certifications but each time he made me discover new aspects of diving such as going through underwater caves, making navigations in orientation, taught me to to better understand marine fauna and flora and above all made me live unforgettable moments in complete safety. I will end by telling you that the choice of diving center and instructor are really decisive in the discovery and pursuit of this activity. Always choose a center that offers their own instructors rather than those that offer freelance instructors. With France Plongée you have no problem because you will dive with the owners of the club who offer you a VIP service from the reception, the dives, the meal on board the boat until your return to the Diving Center. Finally they will advise you on the choice of your equipment and will make you benefit from their professional discount if you wish to buy some articles. I can only advise France Plongée for those who want to discover diving through a baptism, deepen their knowledge through certifications or simply do exploratory dives in complete safety.
The team is friendly, very responsive and professional which is the perfect combo to enjoy scuba diving. I wanted to dive with a club where French instructors work, as French standards are usually high in scuba diving.I was not disappointed, and I can only recommend you to go try it out whether you are an experienced or beginner.Merci Pascal and Sebastien and hope come back dive with you!
Excellent experience with France Plongée thanks to the professionalism and the great vibes from Seb, Pascal and Enzo! Our 3 teens have smoothly passed their Open Water PADI although being slightly reluctant at the beginning as they didn’t want to “study” during their holidays. But the team made it fun and simple yet safe. Now they only talk about their dives and look forward to the next ones, a sign that their truly enjoyed their times! We, the parents, also went diving with the kids after 16 years of not being active divers and were obviously rusty and somewhat worried. Again the team created the right conditions to make us feel at ease.Kind and service-minded crew and good boat.Would recommend 100%
The team is really superb. The choice of place, the boat, the meal on board…The professionalism of the instructors who make you really comfortable. To try the experience, Newbie or Scout, feel free to come to the right place.
Very nice experience! A professional and very pleasant team. Great coaching. Beautiful dives!!
