10 thoughts on “Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre

  1. The displays and models can give you a better picture of what Ayuthaya was like in the past. It is a shame the multimedia (sound recordings, lighting up spots on maps) has not been repaired as of this writing. If you’re on a strict budget, you may skip it because of the ticket price, but if you want some time indoors to escape from the sun or rain, it might be worthwhile. It doesn’t take long to see all the exhibits.

  2. One point is for the A/C. This place should be free of charge. Information is super basic, and I think in any travel guide you will find more historical details. All multimedia is broken. Honestly Ayutthaya is so beautiful that you don’t want to waist time here, plus this place cost as much as any of the historical attractions.

  3. There are captions in every exhibits but lack of valuable informations. There is no staff or a guide to give any information about the pieces being displayed. The pieces though let you imagine it could be this or that happened years ago. The audio visual room is more interesting because they used a round or revolving projector with the story how the Siam kingdom evolves. Relaxing inside coz it has a good a/c.

  4. Cons: the lady in the ticket office doesn’t speak English. The museum has info in English. It’s very small and not very interesting. I only recommend it if you have some time free. Otherwise skip it.

  5. Expensive compared to actual temples (100 baht foreigner’s price). Poor labeling (White text on light/white backgrounds) and very little actual information on the Kingdoms that made Ayutthaya their capital. Some of the information on trading and village life was nice, but I get the feeling (based on reviews) that our money would have been better spent going to the nearby Chao Sam Phraya Museum.

  6. Loved the displays, but marred by the hard to read descriptions. Went here AFTER visiting several ruins which is how I would recommend doing it as it put so much into perspective. I agree with what almost everyone has previously written, but still glad I went as there are some excellent things to look at.

  7. Most of the interactive stuff doesn’t work. Some of the ancient models are quiet interesting. Some displays are informative but overall it’s not a must-do and nothing compared to the real sites.

  8. This exhibition is perfect if you have little time and need to have a some understanding of the sheer size of ancient Ayutthaya and its history. It has small reproductions of the most important parts. Visiting the Historical park without having any prior information can be overwhelming. We thoroughly enjoy our stay in Ayutthaya and surely the vist to the Historical Study Centre helped. It just needs some maintenance as some interactive parts of the exhibition don’t work.

  9. Not very academic but the models and display give you a great background into what life was like and how the city looked at its peak. Interesting info on trade in Asia at that time

  10. A well laid out place to visit taking you on a journey through Ayutthaya’s past and it’s people and food and boat’s. A 2 hour visit should be enough time for filling in those gaps in history and what and why Ayutthaya is and was important.
