  1. This is a Roman Catholic church. It is called Wat Kuti Jean by the locals. It was built in 1770 during the reign of King Taksin. It stands on the west bank of the Chao Phraya. It is a simple cream coloured church with red trimmings. It has beautiful stained glass windows showing biblical scenes.

  2. Within easy riverside walk from Wat Arun, this Roman Catholic Church established in XVIII century by Portuguese is well worth visiting for its architecture and paintings as a part of Thonburi day tour.

  3. Perhaps special for Thailand, but the architecture of this Roman Catholic church completed in 1916 is not outstanding, nor is the interior. However, the history is interesting as the original (wooden) church was built on a plot of land given to Portugese catholics by king Taksin in the 1770s. He thanked them for their support in resisting a Burmese invasion. Ever since a policy of tolerance towards Christians in Thailand was in place as the Chakri dynasty adopted Taksin’s directives.

  4. Situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, this church is a striking change from the surrounding building.Set slightly back from the river, it is a grand symbol of the influence of the Portuguese explorers who roamed the world in the 16th & 17th centuries. It is wonderfully maintained and, I think, its prominence on the river underlines the historic religious tolerance of the Thai people.

  5. The history of this roman catholic church goes back to the 17th century when Portugese sailors got this piece of land to build a church on. This is the stone (and second) verzuim, built in the 18th century.

  6. Charming church easily accessible by ferry from Sanam Chai MRT. Centrepiece of a small Portuguese enclave, with plenty to see on foot surrounding it. Well worth a half day visit for both Bangkokians & tourists.

  7. This beautiful church is set on the Banks of the Chao Phraya River dates back to 1767. The original timber building has since been replaced with the current pink landmark that stands out along the skyline. Inside the church there are beautiful stained glass And the ceiling is covered in traditional Thai style. The church can be easily accessed by walking along the Memorial Bridge. Then follow the river walk for around 10 minutes that will bring you to the church pier. Also take time to walk around the tiny Sois of the Kudichin community, visit their museum and try some local treats.

  8. We never knew how much Portuguese influenced in the Thailand history until we visited Kudi Chin area. Walk around the neighborhood was peaceful and felt like time was frozen here. This church was 1 of the many historical places in Kudi Chin. Highly recommended to have at least half a day to go around this area.

  9. Joyful atmosphere with holiday season, Santa Cruz Church is a Roman Catholic Church more than 200 years old by the river

  10. Nice walk over Memorial Bridge and along the river to get there. Church architecture is great to see and the history of its establishment and current use is interesting. However the Church authorities are still cognisant of Covid so you are not allowed into the church to admire the internal design, decoration and stained glass windows. We were lucky enough to snatch a few pictures through the open door!A stroll around the neighbourhood to admire the architecture and to visit a local restaurant is worthwhile. Unfortunately we did not have time to visit the museum down one of the small lanes.
