  1. We really enjoyed visiting this old wooden home with style. Phrae is an interesting city with lots of historc sites not found in many other places.

  2. Just a few kilometers outside Phrae, this village is famous for indigo-dyed cotton, which is traditionally made into the popular Thai farmer pants and tunics. I was expecting a hamlet, with people dyeing and weaving at their homes, but those days are gone. Shops selling all manner of blue and white clothes are strung out along the main road, and there’s something for everyone. Many of the fabrics are tie-dyed, but beware. Along with cotton and rayon, there’s also “cotton” that’s not cotton, a fabric that doesn’t breathe and is less than perfect for the Thai climate. The highlight of our visit was chatting with ladies at the teahouse behind the market; they were so wonderfully friendly.

  3. Small but pretty village. The shop keepers will haggle if you’re determined enough. All shops have hand made clothes with Phrae’ s famous Mahome coloured clothes. Stop by at the Indigo house for English speaking staff and wonderful iced coffee and smoothies.

  4. Interesting demonstration of the art of indigo dying and print making in the back street of town. Lots of shops selling indigo products and clothes.

  5. Mo Hom is the cotton clothing utilizing the Indigo dye. There are rows of clothing store as well as small factories where they hand dye cottons that you can visit. A small OTOP factory in the photos is called “Baan Pa Ngiam” where they also offer home stay.

  6. A nondescript village that is famous for selling Ma Hom clothing. The indigo dyed shirts are traditionally worn on Fridays in Phrae as a leveler of rank and education so that everyone looks equal. Unfortunately shirts vary in quality and price from 100 baht to 1000 baht and naturally the farmers buy the 100 baht shirts and the governor buys the 1000 baht shirt with extra embroidery so the concept does not work very well. Ma Hom is also worn at cultural events. The dye is not fixed completely. Expect to end up with blue skin the first time you wear it.Worth a visit because Ma Hom is famous around the world and is allegedly the origin of denim cloth. True or not it’s something to talk about when you wear it back home.

  7. I and my friends stopped on the ways for shopping the OTOP/Phrae traditional clothes [pants/farmer shirts called Pah Mor Hom ] Many styles of pants, shirts, skirts, dresses which made from Pah Mor Hom [handmade dye clothing] .This is a place for a happy shopping.

  8. Along this road, there are many shops selling every kinds of the best quality genuine Mor Hom dresses at cheap price. Here, we enjoyed shopping and bought several shirts. Mor Hom is a famous deep blue dye (which is extracted from the local plant called “Hom” ; do not confuse this with the indigo plant), fabric that is a symbol of Phrae. If you like a stylish local shirt, this place is highly recommended.
