This is one of the 1st places we take any of visiting friends. It is a snapshot of Northern Thai provincial royalty 100 years ago. Well worth the stop. It is also the hub of Phrae tourist efforts.
Hi folks. Jono here again on my northern Thai adventure. I ended up in the wrong place but was worth it. It is free & some displays are in English which was worth reading. Took some nice photos.
This old mansion is well worth a visit. It is interesting history but lacks anything stunning.Go here first and then visit Vongburi House just up the road
Well recovered, this old house was the residence of the Luang, some administrator named by the king. Not much interesting, I think
With its beautiful architecture and interesting antiques inside it makes for a good visit in the early morning when the sunlight paint the facade in warm soft tones.
A wonderful old house beautifully preserved in attractive grounds. Plenty to see inside with well labelled exhibits. Charming and entry was free.
The residence of the last rulers of Phrae before the area became fully incorporated into the Kingdom of Siam. The architecture and household items on display are typical of late 1800s but very interesting to have a look at the almost medieval torture contraptions on display in the basement.
Fascinating insight into life over 120 years ago. The flight of the Prince into exile in Laos and tensions between Siam, the French and the British.
We felt like we were in another time zone walking through the living quarters of a noble family. Every room was preserved with furnishings (and even clothes, dressing tables ,and personal items of the former occupants.) . The house is also a very interesting architectural structure.
The 2 storey gingerbread style luxurious vintage building with gracefully light green engraved wooden doors, windows, and eaves was once a residence of the last lord of Phrae. The place was free entrance. It is undoubtedly a very good place to stroll around taking some photos, watching some antique furnitures, and learning history of Phrae. Highly recommend !P.S. There’s also an old dark dungeon which was used to imprison slaves (so creepy).
