  1. Not your average Thai Wat. A beautiful Burmese style wooden building and inside almost reminiscent of the Mezquita in Cordoba with all the pillars. Off to the side an excellent and interesting stupa. Worth a detour from the center of town.

  2. It doesn’t look like most Thai wat temples. It’s very old and wooden and beautifully crafted. I only spent twenty minutes there.

  3. This is another Tai Yai (Myanmar) style temple in Phrae province. It is very nice and situated close to the city center. Inside there is a beautiful main Buddha statue called Phra Chom Sawan. There is no admission fee and you can take photo inside.

  4. This temple proved to be surprisingly delightful. Dating to the second half of the 19th century when a large influx of ethnic Shan came to Phrae to work in timber concessions, this temple attests to a little known period of history. It is made of teak which gives it all a cool, airy feel. The columns are tree trunks as is evident from their slightly irregular shape. The interior is decorated with lovely glass mosaics and gold paint stencilling. You may well feel you are in Shan State in Myanmar.

  5. This Shan (Burmese) style temple is well worth a stop. Beautiful Teak and inlay work very tastefully done. There is a serenity about this temple that makes it worth the visit.

  6. A very small wooden temple with some excellent decoration. Large car park but little else around- well worth a visit

  7. Let’s be honest, Thai temples get boring after a while. This one is the exception. It is a teak Burmese style temple and has a serene atmosphere that is captivating.Don’t miss this one.

  8. Phrae has two Shan (Thai Yai, or Thai living in Burma) temples, distinguished by their wooden multi-tiered towers and simpler charm. Weavers are on sight, weaving or sewing together, the lengths of saffron cloth to wrap the chedi.

  9. This stunning dark red architecture with gorgeous cascading roofs is an over 100 year old Burmese style teak temple embellished with many Lanna flags and lanterns. After we had worshipped the principle Buddha image, we strolled around the beautiful temple. There are many nice spots to take photos.

  10. Beautiful teak temple, Burmese style. We were the only two people there the day we went and it was very quiet and serene. Exquisite architecture. Not to be missed.
