  1. This temple has a nice, quiet, riverside location at the western end of the ‘walking street.’ The compound has several buildings in different styles and colors. The building behind the large seated Buddha is red with gray tiled roofs. The one behind the gilded chedi is white with orange tiled roofs. Its pediments have interesting carvings, such as Shiva on a bull, flanked by kinarees—half-bird, half-woman. In the center of the compound is a beautiful white viharn, across from an old wooden one on stilts. The small white, two-story shrine, topped by several spires at the far end of the compound houses a large ‘Buddha footprint’. Its walls are covered in old murals, mostly intact, depicting religious scenes of monks and devotees and pictures of Heaven. The shrine may be locked, but you can ask one of the monks or caretakers to open it for you. Beside it is a small park where you can get a view of the river and the neighborhood and temple on the other side. Altogether, Wat Ko Walukaram is a pleasant and interesting stop.

  2. This was an interesting excursion. The temple is quite old and clearly not a major tourist attraction. I loved the book exchange they had available and they clearly were interested in community development as well. This is the kind of temple worth supporting.
