  1. Striking architecture, ornate decorations, spectacular temple complex built in true Lanna style. Built in 1432, this temple has ornate grill work on its red facades, not a normal colour for temples, located not far from the Clock Tower, a beautiful place to visit

  2. YOU don’t often need a plan to get round a city temple complex but you do here. When I visited Wat Klang Wiang the first thing that caught my eye was a large area plan of the temple which highlighted more than twenty halls, pillars, wells or gardens to see.You won’t get lost — it is not that big a site — but without guidance you just might get confused as to what part you are looking at and exactly what it is.The important Chiang Rai city pillar is a “must see” while I also liked the scriptures hall and the vihara, uposata and sermons halls. There are vome lovely buildings on site and I quite happily spent more than an hour going round the complex.I didn’t see a toilet but there are numerous opportunities for that with cafes, bars and restaurants just a short walk away.A visit to this temple will also give you some lovely photographs.

  3. This didn’t look like too much from the outside but it is actually a large complex. The temple is lovely and red and behind it is a pretty white and gold monument. Definitely take some time to explore the grounds!

  4. We came across Wat Klang Wiang by walking around Chiang Rai. It was empty, apart from a monk and a woman praying so we had ample of time to explore it. A lot of different ornamentation on the buildings and an excellent example of Lanna architecture. It is worth the visit.

  5. It’s on the list of wats, so you stop by as you walk around. It is unique with some life size sculptures for rice planting, guardian, etc. At the entrance, there is a small tree shaded resting are with benches and tables. This made this temple stand out.

  6. Temple to see absolutely, for its remarkable architecture and embellished relief decorations. Located at the epicenter of Chiang Rai City, Wat Klang Wieng is home to the sanctuary that is originally the city’s pilar as well as a spectacular temple complex built in a contemporary Lanna style.Location: At the corner of Rattanaket and Uttarakit .About 25 minutes walking from the Clock Tower

  7. The Wat Klang Wiang is one of the most ornate temples in Chiang Rai. Every structure in the temple complex is richly decorated. The temple hall is built in contemporary Lanna style guarded by nagas.

  8. Worth seeing when combined with a couple of the better wats nearby. You can easily walk between this temple, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Mung Muang.

  9. Beautiful and magnificently ornate temple and surrounding complex. Impressive Pagoda surrounded by elephant statues. Interesting wooden area near the entrance indicating a “No killing area” – first time I see this indication in a temple in Thailand! I was visiting in the evening, and witnesses people entering the temple on their way home from work, stopping for their evening prayers, and then continuing along their way. Be respectful when inside the main temple, remove shoes, dress conservatively, and don’t be blatant in taking photographs(i.e.: paparazzi-style). Note that this complex is also home to monks, who might be out doing chores, so be respectful to them as well. Worth a stop in, but no need to spend too much time here.

  10. This temple probably not going to take longer than 30 minutes. There is a massive Buddha instead. While not a top priority, this temple is worth a detour if you are in the area.
