The Kingdom of Somchai’s Affection is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 23000, Thailand
There does appear to be some people living on the land in this area but its worth taking a couple minutes to explore this unique sculpture garden. Just be sure to bring bug spray!
Several mostly erotic sculptures 200 meters from koh mak resort pier, reflecting their creator’s idea of the fair sex and the world in general. Surely, the excibition is for 18+ and when you are there, beware of sand flies, plenty of them. But it is worth seeing if you are interested in primitive art forms.
In a bamboo plantation off the road near the speedboat pier is this collection of grotty and disturbing plaster of paris figures. They have no artistic value and are un-erotic, infantile depictions of mostly female-like shapes. They are late 20th and early 21st century and are most certainly not primitive, ancient or cultural, just some fever-nightmare.Filthy surroundings with excrement and dead animals on the floor and all kinds of biting bugs.Give this a miss.

Unique artistic site in the world. A true enchanted garden of predominantly female statues in a very sensual version (don’t bring children). It was the solitary refuge of an artist from Burma, Somchai, who lived there for 35 years in solitude, surrounding himself with these suggestive concrete nymphs, coloring them with bright colours. Unfortunately, after the artist’s death, the site was abandoned to itself and is falling to pieces. Nobody cares about Somchai’s artistic legacy. The owner of the land has placed a farmer who lets his chickens scratch among the statues, the Thai government considers Somchai’s art immoral and does not intend to spend a cent to protect it, tourists are vandalizing the site, and the monsoon rains will soon they will complete the destructive work. Yet Somchai should be considered a pride of the island. Two statues of the artist in good condition (even if they have modestly covered them with long johns) welcome the tourist upon his arrival on Koh Mak. They could have created a fantastic museum unique in the world. Sin. Go while you still have time. It’s a site that makes you dream. I predict that in a year or two it will all be in ruins.
A somewhat strange depiction of female bodies in erotic positions.Ingeniously crafted and somewhat mystical – unfortunately partly littered and left to decay.The ladies are definitely worth a visit.It’s a shame that such “art” is apparently not valued…
A short tour in the rainforest (with all that this implies) to find many concrete statues of erotic women, sometimes very provocative. An interesting collection that reflects an artistic life of an islander who never claimed to aim for the public. Just made for him. His workshop / Cabin is still among the trees. We like or we don’t like, in any case we don’t remain indifferent. The collection is free to access, donation to slip into a small box. The late artist, the place is maintained by a caretaker who fights against a devouring jungle and monsoon and benefits from no subsidy so yes it is sometimes a bit messy. This artist gives a special identity to this small island, moreover 3 statues welcome you at the entrance of the island , dressed these to not hurt anyone… A QR code at the entrance of the forest will inform you more about the artist and his very personal work… As far as I am concerned I have not been touched but I respect this artist who has been to the end of his art and materializing his dreams as strange as they are…
