  1. We loved visiting here! We felt confident our money was going to helping the elephants in the best care possible! We were able to help wash the elephants and feed them. The owners were knowledgeable and kind. They took great care of the elephants.

  2. Everything about Mae Rim elephant home was great except the group size. We had 18 tourists in our 10 am group which was WAY too many people for only 4 elephants. Feeding the elephants would have been fun if we weren’t fighting other guests to give them bananas/sugar cane. The walk was our favorite part, you can safely get up close to the elephants and touch them. They are very nice, certainly well trained. I had the impression that the elephants are treated humanely and there was no riding. You don’t have to participate in the bathing if you don’t want but I liked it and it seemed the elephants do. Our guide Tony was very nice, just overworked with clients. Overall good experience but be sure to ask how many clients are in your group before booking. 10-12 people should be the maximum.

  3. Small elephant home that has been hurt by COVID and lack of tourists that it breaks my heart. These people love and rescue elephants and it’s a short 2 hour experience if you do not have a whole day. Great 5 minute ride from the 4 Seasons Chiang Mai. Worth a visit. We learned more about the elephants in the 2 hours at the home than we did 4 days in Chiang Rai. Thank you Jimmy, Tony and loving Mahouts and especially Fufu and the elephants. Happy to report there is no riding. Only love and care of theses gentle giants. Thank you Mae Rim Elephant home for taking care of these beautiful animals.

  4. We had a great experience here caring for the elephants.Cost is 1,500 THB per person which includes a small Vegetable Pad Thai & cold bottled water. Firstly we changed into our jungle clothes. We then had a quick lesson about elephants. Then we fed them, cleaned their feet, walked with them through the jungle & finally washed them in the river.Endless photo opportunities!Guide was fun & will take pics with your own phones. We certainly recommend this place as the elephants are so well looked after & appear very happy here.

  5. Very fun and educational experience. It was thoughtful that they provide clothes to change into, showers afterwards and lunch (delicious pad Thai). We would definitely go back and recommend to anyone staying in Chiang Mai.

  6. A great experience for the family that provided education and enjoyment. Many different sanctuaries to choose from but this proved to be a good choice.Elephants not worked but lovingly looked afterReal highlight of holiday

  7. Lovely day with the elephants- we learned a lot about them , we felt safe and the elephants seemed well cared for. Our leader Tony was outstanding and did a great job of engaging the kids who were a little fearful. Tony also takes great photos!

  8. Our time spent at Maerim Animal Home was unforgettable. We intentionally looked for an ethical place that didn’t offer elephant rides, but a more educational and conservational experience. This is a smaller operation with four elephants, but the time we spent with them was invaluable. Our family group including grandparents as well as two teenagers. We began by changing into mahout-style clothing, which spared our own clothes from getting dirty. The changing facilities are pretty basic for Thailand. We then were given a discussion about elephant anatomy and instruction about verbal cues. He discusses the differences between domesticated and wild elephants. Tony, the instructor, is funny and charming and spoke a good amount of English. (I’m bilingual, but our kids are not). We then fed the elephants and then learned how to use native plant bark to scrub their toenails and feet. All the while, Tony takes pictures of your group, so you don’t have to worry about carrying a phone or camera. We also walked alongside elephants on a short jungle path and then ended up being able to bathe the elephants in the water, which was optional if you didn’t want to get wet. They serve you pad thai after your session, because you work up an appetite! For 400 baht (about $11 USD), Tony will air drop or email the photos to you. Everyone in our group was impressed at the amount of time we actually spent with the animals. The elephants here are not working elephants but are well cared for. Tony and I discussed the difficult time that elephants had during the COVID pandemic, and how hard it was on elephant conservation sanctuaries. Maerim Elephant Home lost a four year old elephant during the pandemic, and you could tell how devastating it was for them. Happy to support a sanctuary that takes great care of its animals.

  9. Not that I have been to the other elephant sanctuaries in Chiang Mai but I cannot fault the experience here. Firstly, you don’t need to book a tour. You can just arrive by your own transport. I suggest booking a private vehicle. You need to be there before they start explaining and feeding the elephants. I think we arrived before 10am. The price was about $150 for the three of us. This included, feeding, washing, walking in the jungle and going to the river with these magnificent animals. Tony is your guide. He explains everything and is quite a jovial character. You will like him for sure. You will need to wear their clothing…. and yes it is advisable. You have your own locker to store your valuables. Tony will take snaps and some of the photos he takes are breathtaking. It cost 400 THB to get them and is well worth it. DO NOT BE SCARED of the elephants. They are well trained and the Sherpas are skilled in ensuring your safety. Bon Soong. At the end you are fed with stir-fry noodles and they are delicious. BTW. This is the closest park to the city. About 40 minutes in travelling time. The others are all well over an hour.Enjoy!

  10. I had such an amazing time in Maerim Elephant home and I would do it again and again. They started with a small class about elephants where you can learn all kind of facts and after that you can feed them and bath them. The best part was when we went for a walk on the middle of the jungle where you can see them free, picking food from the trees and swimming on the water. I was by myself so I was so lucky I had two elephants around me and went even to the river with them.I would say that was one of the happiest days of my life, the interaction you have with them is unique and they look happy and free. The guys that take care of elephants were great and Tony was the best (after the elephants 😁)They give you lunch, water, and also provide you the uniform to interact with them so you don’t get your clothes ditty. The lockers and bathroom were clean as well.Super recommended!!
