If you have any engineering knowledge this place is a must. Fascinating place where it’s easy to see how they cast. No restrictions on walking round.
Essentially you just walk around while a small handful of people do their jobs. The castings were interesting, and it was cool to see people so casually making such delicate features of the statues. The gift shop was VERY expensive, though!
No one else there so we were able to stroll around at our leisure. Watched a lady finishing a large wax Buddha to make a mould. Very detailed and fascinating to watch.
Walked through here to the BIRDS OF THAILAND centre from the Sgt Maj Thawee folklore centre – I must have missed sinething though because it was just a walk though a shed of statues in different stages of completion It’s needs some signs or a guide I think.
The Buddha Casting Factory is very interesting to see how much work goes into making the Buddha. The bird sanctuary attached is very run down and not well maintained.
We were lucky, because we pushed the gate open just as the casting of a monumental Buddha image was about to get underway. Several weeks of work hung in the balance. It was an awe-inspiring, breathtaking process and it was explained to us very carefully at every stage by a warm and humorous woman who normally works in the office. It’s like one big family, and on a bed in one corner of the factory a young woman who had recently given birth was resting on a bamboo bed with a smouldering fire beneath it. At the end we purchased a small image for our family altar; it will help us to remember a unique experience.
This is not a spot on the list of things to do. They are really not set-up to offer an actual tour of the facility. With that said – I did find it interesting to walk around and see all the workers preparing the various sized Buddha images.
I read some negative reviews from disappointed travelers. I guess if there is nothing going on, that would be disappointing.I went there on a day where people were working so I got a different perspective. I really enjoyed it and saw the different phases, from start to finish. People explained (only thai) the process. This is more of a working place than a tourist place. Then just walk through a gate yo see the live birds. The two places are well worth the visit. Both a 4 rating for me. I did not expect much and was pleasantly surprised.
This is an amazing place to visit if you are interested in real ancient craftsmanship. And amazingly you are free to stroll around in the factory while the artisans are doing their job. Seeing is believing. But one should be aware that depending on the workload there might be more or less action to see.”Normal” tourists might however be disappointed as there are no guided tours and no organized information. And it’s free, although donations are welcome.
A real insight into this wonderful craft. All the staff have very little English, they were friendly and welcomingThey spent the time to show us the processes in making the Buddha statues. We just had to buy one, well two!
