This temple is extremely interesting. If you go on a tour with Karma home hostel you will learn so much about Buddhism and things you take for granted or just miss. For example: 1.In one of the rooms there is a boat King Rama 5 used which is now sacred and for good luck you must crawl under it 3,5 or 9 times. 2. Check out the 200 year old murals in another room.(unusual monkey figures playing with themselves)3. Shake the sticks to read your fortune.4. Learn how to do traditional Thai massage or just get a massage.5. See a 700 year old Buddha image.6. On Sunday,there is a traditional Thai market with Thai dancing,in the temple grounds.Plus many more very interesting things all in this one temple.
Just across the road from Wat yai Cinnarat and we found this to be a better place to visit. There are very few people here, it is smaller and shady and had a lot to see. All for free.
I can’t really say much about the temple itself, but inside they offer Thai massage for 150THB. I think it’s a school so people learn to do the massages, but it’s still really good!Also, from 3 to 8 pm, there is a herbal Sauna in the back right of the temple area. Try it out! It’s a big thing for the locals. Donate 20 THB and experience the Thai way of steam sauna!
Don’t miss out Sunday evening market. Local street food, music, and performance. Free entry. Just walk across the street from Wat Prasri Rattana Mahatat (Wat Yai). If you stay at Topland hotel, only 200 metres walking distance.
This way dates back to at least the 15th century, when its main antiquity (a brick check with a bell stupa on top) was first constructed. In recent years it had seemed rather drab and bedraggled, especially compared to the famous wat across the street, but the new renovations are now cause for concern as well.They have done a fair job restoring the historic bell-tower, which dates to the 19th century, but right alongside is the hideous eyesore of a large wall made of cinder block. Why they would build an ugly cinder block wall right near the old check and bell-tower is anyone’s guess.However, before you give up on this wat, step inside its vihaan to see some compelling wall murals and a truly magical seated Buddha, said to date back to the Sukhothai kingdom. This building is something very special. The ubosot is less well-maintained.Overall, this one is a mixture of some real treasures and some awful modern intrusions. Three stars.
A beautiful, old temple dating back to the 15th century near the center of the city. Any of the original structures are still in place. Certainly worth a look see!
