  1. This is a monument to the founder of Udon Thani. Thailand is the only country in this region that was never colonized by a European nation. Back in colonial times, there was worry that the French would invade from Laos. A peace accord was reached which required that the Thais pull their army back from the Laotian border by 50 km and this led to the establishment of Udon Thani. The monument is in the middle of a rotary. It is just outside of my office at Rajabhat University and I pass it every day. The only way you can get to it is on foot through the rotary (or you could hire a motorcycle to get you across). People go over to the monument in the evening, but I would not recommend it. If you really, really want to go right up to this monument, I would recommend that you do so at sunrise. The traffic is not so bad at 6 am.

  2. This monument is in the centre of a roundabout in Udon Thani City. Not easy to take a photograph as there are many vehicles on the roads.

  3. There are three roundabouts along the main road in Udon Thani (capital of Udon Thani province). Here are the names as you go from north to the south. (1) The clock circle(2) The fountain circle(3) The Prajak circleThe monument to Prince Prajak is located in the centre of the third roundabout. Prince Prajak lived and worked around 1900. He was in charge of the Thai army in the north. At first he was based in Nongkai, which is close to the border with Laos. In 1893, the French moved into Laos. In order to be safer, Prince Prajak decided to move his base further south. He established his base in a small village which is today Udon Thani. This is why Prince Prajak is regarded as the founder of the provincial capital.Obviously, there is a lot of traffic around the monument, but it is still possible to get there. It is free. It is open all day every day. Many local people come to this monument to pay their respect and to pray for good luck.

  4. This place is very important for Thai people, I saw Thais coming and respecting it. It is situated in the middle of the roundabout.

  5. This monument located in the middle of a roundabout is dedicated to the founder of Udon Thani, Prince Prajak. This is a busy interchange and the statue is best viewed from a safe distance.

  6. I pass over here hundred of times and I never take a second look at it, but for the native people it is important because it represents the founder of the city.

  7. This is a monument of a famous prince and it is located in the middle of a roundabout. You can see it from your car. Many locals come here to pay respect to the monument.

  8. This monument is most respected by Udon Thani people. Located in the center of the city. From this location, you can continue walking to the shopping street and much more.

  9. when we first went pass this i thought i was seeing thing as there were loads of people running around it, being a runner i decided to jog up from my hotel to find out what was going on , and yes locals sometimes go there to train given the state of the pavement ? when its there i fully understand. crossing the roads to get to it can be a mission its self.

  10. This statue/monument is in the middle of the city as a tribute to Prince Pajak the founder of Udon Thani. It’s was central to the recent celebrations of 126 years anniversary of Udon Thani. Very impressive roundabout with the monument and well arranged and groomed garden.
