Wat Khao Lan Thom is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 77110, Thailand
This tiny temple is hidden away. We had a car and so discovered it by seeing the temple and walking up the steps. There a monk receives you and show you the donation box! I asked for a blessing but didn’t get one. There is a little museum up more steps with some interesting fossils which are probably worth a small fortune, skulls and some incredible monk statues which are so lifelike. We walked up the tower and then down again to get to the cave part which overlooks a small stream and the sea! On our way we ladies were given a pretty diamond cut ring (which still hasn’t made my skin green, after a week!). There are golden Buddhas in the “cave” and a very strange fish tank with a depiction in it – words fail me! I do not disrespect them, but these were my impressions. The monk caught us as we went out and as hubby only had 50,00ThB on him the monk took it and wouldn’t give change!! We had to laugh. This what is definitely worth a visit, but take some change and a sense of humour with you.
Wat Khao Lan Thom is located next to Khao Takiab. Wat Khao Lan Thom is a new wat. The wat structure is basic. The Viharn is great.
Can be walked to this place from most hotel on HUA HIN beech it took me 20 mins from Amari hotel you can have a beer or two near the baudha
This is a very large temple including the temple itself, a Buddha, a crematorium and many other sites to see. The Master and Monks are very helpful and kind people. We had a special request to inter our sons ashes and they were so kind in helping us to do that in a very special way. This is a special place.
…close to Wat Khao Takiab and Wat Khao Krailart which makes for a wonderful day out exploring temples in the area. This one looks to be the newer of the three. It’s quite large and seems to be a work in progress. I walked the whole grounds. At one point some dogs were on the verge of attacking me until a monk chased them away. Nice guy. What else happened here? I did get a second meditation in on the day. This time, there was somebody else there meditating as well. And I didn’t have turn on my phone to listen to some chanting, there was actually a live monk doing some. It is very unusual that I meditate with other people. Always thought extremists do religious practices in groups: pray, meditate, chant, whatever. In my opinion, people who do such on their own are more sincere about it. Other than that, nothing spectacular to report here. Looks like a big community temple that has lots of facilities for people to come together and gather. I’m never involved in any of that I guess.
Even if it is not a tourist attraction, the Temple has its reasons. Clean, well kept and quiet, not too crowded and spacious.
