7 thoughts on “Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng

  1. Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng is about 400 year old Buddhist Temple complex on small hill roughly 2-3Miles from center of Nana on the other side of Nana river practically outside the city proper. It has a building housing a huge reclining Buddha not as beautiful as what you see in Wat Po in Bangkok. There is a huge golden Stupa next a beautiful temple. It is serene and quite. I was the only foreign tourist there. Most if not all visitors were Thai, probably there for spiritual reason. Do not miss it if in Nan. One practical point, there are no taxis close by, and if you did not drive you have to walk the way back to Nan.

  2. This temple (Wat) and Chedi is a marvelous visit, but I wouldn’t recommend it on a rainy day. 🙂 Most of the attraction of the temple and Chedi is from the outside with very little to see on the inside. There are many vantage points to take some amazing pictures of both structures and with the gleaming gold Chedi framed against a beautiful This blue sky, you will look at your pictures with fond memories.

  3. Like many temples, or ‘wats’; as they are called in Thailand, this one is dedicated to a particular Chinese zodiacal sign: the rabbit. This tradition illustrates the close ties Buddhism has across many nations in South East Asia including China and Thailand. As my Thai husband was born in the year of the rabbit according to Chinese zodiacal mythology this temple is of particular importance as a place for meditation and prayer as it would be for many thousands of other Thai Buddhists.Unsurprisingly the site has many sculptures and carvings depicting rabbits but apart from this the golden pagoda and surrounding grounds, once the home of the former king of Nan province, make this a fascinating place to explore.

  4. This temple is nothing special but when you are visiting the city than take some time and have a walk to this temple.

  5. Lots to see here with different building one containing a hug reclining buddha. Well worth a visit. The architecture is interesting with two lions guarding the entrance

  6. This was a our first temple in Nan and it did not disappoint. Like many of the other Nan temples it has spacious grounds for walking or relaxing – including food and souvenir shops. The temple itself is peaceful, with a huge statue of the Buddha in the main hall, In front of the stupa is the focus of peoples devotion – a fine rabbit with a small Buddha covered in the small squares of gold leaf stuck on by the faithful – so much in fact that the surrounding ground is full of these tiny sheets of real gold leaf. Don’t miss the wonderful reclining Buddha either in this perfectly maintained temple

  7. The main Wat was covered in scaffolding and sheeting when we visited in early December 2022. There was lots of construction going on and hence the visit was spoilt by this. No photo opportunities. If visiting I would recommend coming back mid-2023. Disappointing visit.
