Truely amazing. Having made a conscious effort with family to never see animals in captivity, this was completely different. We were the only 2 people in the group, and were fortunate to get personalized attention from Jayjay and the minders. All were obviously in tune with the elephants. Little Forest Gump, the new addition, was like watching a naughty, mischievous, playful kid. Too fascinating, as the adults were continuously making sure he was fine. Learnt a lot from all, with jayjay sharing a wealth of knowledge. Highly recommended and hope to find a way of contributing to their mission.
What an excellent small group (5) trip to Dom’s Elephant sanctuary for rescues. We arrived by bamboo rafts and stayed with the small group of Elephants, feeding and washing them. Dom explained the main facts and feeding requirements which made the trip so interesting. We even prepared a meal with many essentials for the elephants. Dom also cooked us a meal.
Elephant Discovery is their name And that’s what happened to us today! We are an italian family, me, my wife and our 5 years old daughter. All of us are so excited about the experience, we enjoyed the kayak rafting, the river is beautiful and the guide Dom is really prepared and knows a lot of interesting things about elephants but also about Thailand culture and he is able to communicate everything in a fluent and clear english! We felt in love with the elephants, they really are special animals, wow!!! My daughter loved to feed them, initially she was a little scared but there was no hurry, the situation around was very calm And relaxed And that allows you to take your time to connect with the elephants…to look at them, to observe the unicity of those 4 beautiful animals…at the end of this Elephant Discovery experience we are pretty sure you will remember the elephants’ names because the feeling is to have met 4 new precious friends! We also like to say that the elephant keepers are really in touch with “their” elephants, they know them very deeply, and you will see a healty gentle respectful relationship between them. We absolutely loved the experience at the elephant discovery camp in Chang Mai. It was a sanctuary that treated the elephants with love, respect, and high-quality of care.. what was amazing is that we were able to not feed the elephants, but also get in the river and vase them – so exciting! Plus, they also had a little baby elephant that was adorable as well. In addition, we had a delicious lunch, learned to make medicine for the elephants, and so much more. Dominic was a wonderful guide and truly a great experience!
This was a fantastic experience for my family of four (54, 53, 21, 18). We’re not experts but the animals seemed well cared for and loved. Very informative and entertaining. Lunch was delicious. Our total group was 9 people and there were 4 elephants at this camp, including a mom and baby! If you’re considering an elephant experience, consider these folks for sure.
This experience exceeded expectations! Our family loved it. We learned so much about the challenges of taking care of these beautiful animals from Dom, our guide and main person in charge. We got to help prepare some of their food. You get up close and personal with the elephants. We got to pet them, give them snacks, and the highlight was bathing them in the river (including the baby) where it felt like the people and elephants were all playing and having fun. Up close you better appreciate how powerful, intelligent and magnificent they are. The caretakers were knowledgeable and kind. I’m glad we did the full day experience.Context: It appears that a number of sanctuaries are neighbors in the same area along a river. Each one seems to care for some subset of the elephants. Ours had 5 elephants including a baby that was still nursing. Super experience!
We arrived by bamboo raft and spent a peaceful and informative morning learning about elephant biology and care. It was the low season so there were very few guests, but i was told that they limit the number of visitors all the time. Dom obviously cares greatly for the animals. We fed them bananas and learned that, while they love them, too many bananas are not healthy. Later we offered them corn stalks and learned that they are brought up the hill daily so they can get a more diverse and natural diet. We were served a nice lunch of rice and a protein steamed in banana leaves. Then we followed the elephants to the river where they frolicked and allowed us to douse them with pots of water and rub their backs.
We had the most amazing experience here, cannot fault it! The elephants appeared to be very well cared for and loved. They seemed very happy and the keepers were clearly very knowledgeable about their wellbeing, health and happiness. Can’t recommend enough. If you want a truly ethical elephant experience in Thailand, you should come here! And baby Forest Gump is the cheekiest, worth visiting just to meet him!

Elephant Discovery was amazing! I signed up for the full day trip and it was worth the money! My driver was super nice and funny. He also happened to be our main leader for the day at the camp. My group was only 6 people which I thought was a perfect size. We got to ride bamboo rafts to the camp! There were four elephants (three female and one baby male). We got to feed the elephants, make medicine for them, play with them in the river, and take lots of photos. The camp leader was our photographer and took great pictures of everyone. Every worker treated the elephants so kindly and you could easily tell they were very well taken care of. You can see the strong and loving bonds the workers have made with the elephants. If you want to see the elephants in Chiang Mai, Elephant Discovery is the sanctuary to choose!!
