  1. My first time being so near to an elephant and touching it! I got a good feeling about the people here in the sanctuary. You could see that they really care for their elephants as the elephants were really calm and could freely walk around. I could ask many questions and they were all answered. We chose the full day package which included feeding, bathing and taking a walk with the elephants. We got local food for lunch and traditional clothing for the day.

  2. I loved every second of our day at the sanctuary.. you really feel that the tribe cares for the elephants and does everything to make them feel good.. We fed the elephants, took a walk with the elephants, got a delicious lunch, bath the elephants and could just spend our whole day with the elephants..We could ask everything about the elephants that we wanted to know so we are richer in our knowlegde and in experience!I can only recommend it!Really want to come back someday.

  3. We did the full day experience and it was incredible. They picked us up from our hotel right on time and was under 2 hours to the sanctuary with a stop in the middle. The elephants had a huge open space as well as the jungle to roam freely and in a natural habitat. We fed the elephants, then walked around the jungle with them whilst we had lots of photos taken and the guide taught us about saving the elephants and told us lots of interesting facts. Then we had a superb lunch prepared by the tribe, soup then rice and vegetables and noodles with fresh fruit to finish. Then we gave the elephants a mud bath which was great fun. After chilling with the elephants a bit more we were taken back to our hotel. Was the best day and this place takes such good care of these amazing creatures with no riding or tricks.

  4. We arranged private time with an elephant, magical! Sam, the owner was very knowledgeable about the elephants. A very interesting young man.

  5. This was a much more organic elephant interaction. At the moment, they have only 5 elephants. One was at the veterinarian and 1 is pregnant so our group was 3 elephants. A 3 year old, her Mama and a rescue that has been there 10 years. We started off by grinding tamarind and salt into a banana and feeding it to the elephants. This was followed by many plain bananas. Then we walked with the elephants through fields currently growing corn. The elephants went where they wanted and stopped when they wanted. Then it was time for a mud bath. It was pretty clear the elephants enjoyed it. After getting out of the mud pool, the elephants were walked down to the river where we rinsed them. It is really amazing how gentle they are and so so smart. Lunch was traditional Karen Thai. Fruit, fried rice, chicken. That wrapped up the portion of the tour that involved elephants. We were then driven to a waterfall for some swimming. The final stop was for rafting on the river. Very fun day overall.

  6. …for an amazing morning! Feeding, walking with and washing the three elephants we met were all wonderful activities, and the small group, intimate setting really added to how magical it all was. Pretty rustic with very basic facilities so please be prepared for that but we managed it with two very young kids so most groups will be absolutely fine! Lunch was tasty too, unexpectedly so.

  7. I was awed by this very singular encounter with my own Elephant walking through the verdant landscape of the Mae Wang region in the mountains Southwest of Chiang Mai. My guide “Pan” also provided a rich education on the flora and fauna of indigenous plants to the area. The Karen team were gracious hosts in a natural setting. This event was once in a lifetime and I will forever cherish it.

  8. The Ethical Elephant Karen Tribe is among the many tours offering interaction with elephants in the forests around Chiang Mai. Lush forests, dotted with streams and waterfalls, surround the village, while various crop plantations dot the hillsides. The description suggests that here, the elephants receive ethical treatment, free from chaining or violent control, which is a refreshing contrast to their treatment in Thailand. You can touch them, but you cannot ride them. They can feed fresh sugarcane stalks cut into small pieces to the elephants as they accompany you for a stroll through the jungles. It is a wonderful way to get up and close with these gentle giants, and if you choose to, you can also give them a scrub in the stream. My guide, Pan, is a wonderful lady who is very well acquainted with the Karen tribe, and she arranged for a smooth pickup and drop-off. She can also arrange for a visit to the many waterfalls in the region (like Mae Sa Pok waterfall), which can be added as part of a half-day trip. The trails are off-the-beaten track and if lucky, you can have the entire waterfall to yourself.

  9. My first time visiting this specific elephant sanctuary, but not my first time having this activity in Thailand, This time I decided to go for a small tour with a friend of mine that was visiting Chiang Mai for the first time, so I contacted Pan since I knew her for some time from the city. Pan is very friendly and it’s very easy to talk with her and to get good advices from her, as she is very active in Chiang Mai. The booking was easy and we arranged the exact time that we wanted her to pick us up from our hotel. After a sort driving we reached the place and we were very happy that not other tourists were there during that visit. Pan was very kind to get us in touch with the owner of this place, who was a lovely Thai lady, She was speaking quite good English and she gave us much info about the elephants and the place. Then we got dressed with the traditional outfit, got a bag with the food for the animals and we started our walk with 2 magnificent elephants, Pan and a local guy. On the way we enjoyed taking many photos and videos with the animals as we were feeding them and then we ended up at a nearby river where we enjoyed a bath together with the elephants! It was extra fun that the elephants were also throwing back water to us. We finished our trip with a proper shower outside of the river and Pan arranged for us to have some clean towels for our way back. For sure it was a great experience and will consider to arrange more activities with Pan in the future!

  10. My friends and I had a wonderful experience at Ethical Elephant Karen Tribe With Pan as our expert and efficient private tour guide. I found Pan through her instagram and I’m glad I did. She was delightful as a companion and guide and cheerfully took care of my annoying special request. Wipada the kind owner treats the elephants with loving care. The elephant handlers were also very kind and gentle with the elephants while keeping a watchful eye on the safety of the guests. It was a fantastic experience. I recommend them highly.
