We spent the whole day here and it was my favourite day of my holiday. We learnt all about the elephant’s and their history. We made food and fed the elephant’s, we even planted bamboo trees for them. We had lunch and dinner here, both meals were fantastic. The staff were very kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend, the elephant’s here are very well cared for in a very ethical way.
Not much to add to the other 5 star reviews here. It feels like it really is all about the elephants. Very serene and enjoyable. Could feed them for hours. Amazing animals up close. Good communication and transport to and from hotel. We heard from another group who went to a sanctuary where you bathe the elephants and they said they had so much fun that we were wondering if we had made the right choice: but when we saw the photos it was obvious that the fun was all about getting wet and having a mud bath for the people. The elephants didn’t look at all engaged with it, or like they were enjoying it, and we were really happy with our choice of elephant sanctuary.
Great trip- picked up from and dropped back to hotel. Really interesting and eEducational with opportunity to make food for the elephants and feed them at multiple points. Great guide and photo opportunities in an ethical setting. We did a lot of research beforehand and really feel we chose the right sanctuary to visit. I strongly encourage you to come here!
We spent a long time researching the right place to see elephants as there are so many on the island that say they are ethical but they are not. I cannot promote this place enough. They really do care for the elephants that they have rescued – Places that let you swim with them, ride them and touch them lots are not right, the elephants are not happy with this. This place truly loves these elephants and the hours feeding experience was brilliant. Lots of time for questions, preparing food for them and then actually feeding them with it was so special. Really recommend this place.
We had a great experience with the elephants. I can recommend this Sanctuary fully. The elephants are not forced to do anything, all what they do, they do because they want it. Of course this means that no bathing except the Elephant decides to do. Further here they hold also Male elephants which is much more costs intensive. Maybe it costs some Bhat more then other Sanctuary but it’s worth If you know all is for a fair animal Treatment.
We did only the feeding and we loved it so much! Our tour guide was so nice! He Explained to us everything and made this experience the best thing. The elephants are so cute and the place takes care of them so good. All money goes for saving the elephants and it’s so important.
The guide was entertaining and spoke fluent English. We were able to learn about the Elephants , both Historically and modern day. We prepared food for and fed several elephants during the sanctuary tour. I recommend a visit to this sanctuary of you are in Koh Samui.
One of the best things you can do in Ko Samui. The elephant experience was unreal, better than what we could have thought. Our guide, Rif, was incredible and made the experience that much more enjoyable, really easy to understand and had so much knowledge on all the elephants. We wanted to make sure we were visiting an ethical sanctuary and this place is the definition of it, you can see first hand how well they’re looked after and how much each of the staff care about the work that they do, especially Rif. From preparing the food to the trail around the facility, the whole experience was 1000% worth it in terms of value for money. We didn’t get the best weather, heavy rain the whole time, don’t let this put you off booking, as Rif explained, the elephants love the rain! We were given ponchos and hats before the trail, as it is muddy/slippery/wet would recommend not wearing sliders?
I would give this 6 out of 5 if I could!I love elephants and so knew when visiting Koh Samui this would be one of the first places to visit.I cannot recommend this tour enough.I booked directly through their website and arranged to be picked up from my hotel.(This is included in the cost). All correspondence with them was clear and easy to read.I spent the morning feeding the elephants, making some lovely extra food supplements for them and being given a very detailed guide round the sanctuary. There was only myself and one other couple in our group so it really was a small and very personal tour. Our guide was so good explaining the history of each elephant and you could tell how much he loves and cares for them. There’s also a little museum that has elephant tusks and teeth on display. When we got back to the main building, a very substantial lunch was provided with lots of different choices including fresh fruit. There’s also a gift shop where they have some lovely branded items and elephant gifts you can buy.I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Koh Samui as it truly is an ethical elephant sanctuary.
We were in town for the day and wanted to visit an elephant sanctuary. I did a bit of reservation and found the Samui Elephant Haven. We enjoyed preparing food, feeding and learning the stories of the elephants. It is a wonderful family experience. The people who run the sanctuary love the animals and are dedicated to giving them a better life. Highly recommend
We went as 2 families and had a wonderful afternoon. Our tour guide Bas was very informative and friendly, answering lots of questions. The elephants seemed very well looked after and the staff were doing the best they could with the space and money they had to care for the elephants in an ethical fashion. We would recommend this to others.
This is the most ethical elephant sanctuary I could find on Samui according to google reviews and I could convince myself that it really is an ethical place. No riding, no bathing, no forced modelling for pictures. The elephants will come when you offer food and there was always some food at every elephant home we visited throughout the area, and when there is no more food left, they can just retreat into their jungle. It was so interesting to learn about the elephant’s biology and their behaviour, and to hear about all their unique (and sad) histories and how they finally got rescued and are living a better life now. The 3,000 Baht are totally worth it and in no way overpriced if you consider that the other “sanctuaries” will not be cheaper plus they still have some exploiting practices. The money you spend here goes to the right place.
We did the one hour elephant feeding experience and it was great. The staff working with the elephants clearly have a really close relationship with them and it was lovely to see the personality of the elephants come out. You get to feed them lots of fruit and then prepare some food to feed them again. The sanctuary seems very ethical and they are clearly well looked after. Complimentary drinks provided.
Had a very good experience and the tour was great. The lunch was also excellent! The elephant cooking was fun and the minimal contact felt great for the animals and for us.
We specifically wanted a genuinely ethical sanctuary and this fit the bill perfectly. Our guide spoke excellent English and we learnt so much from him. Feeding these beautiful creatures is obviously a highlight, but learning about them, hearing their history and just watching them was a true bucket list experience. This sanctuary is all about the elephants and their welfare – they’ve had to buy the elephants from all manner of places and their only aim is to allow these beautiful creatures to live the rest of their lives in peace. If you want to live out a Mowgli fantasy of riding one – go to a funfair.
Fantastic half day experience. Our guide, Rif, was so knowledgeable and friendly and spoke excellent English. Learnt so much about all the elephants and all appeared really well looked after. A truly ethical sanctuary.
I had the most INCREDIBLE experience at Elephant Haven Thailand! This is truly an ETHICAL sanctuary that prioritizes the well-being of the elephants over profit. Unlike other places that allow bathing or riding, which are unnatural and stressful for elephants, this sanctuary ensures that the animals live in a way that aligns with their natural behaviors. Our guide was fantastic—he spoke excellent English, was kind and welcoming, and provided detailed explanations about the elephants and their care. We got to interact with the elephants by feeding them, walking alongside one, and observing them play together. It was heartwarming to see how the sanctuary carefully separates the elephants into family groups based on their personalities and preferences.Meeting the two baby elephants was such a special treat—they were absolutely adorable! It’s clear that this sanctuary is focused on creating a safe and happy environment for the elephants, rather than just catering to tourists.I highly recommend Elephant Haven Thailand to anyone looking for an ethical and unforgettable elephant experience. You’ll leave with a deep respect for these beautiful animals and the people who care for them!
