I took the Open Water Diver Scuba Diving Certification at Crystal Dives and it was absolutely phenomenal. I was a little unsure about scuba diving in general before coming to Thailand but I was travelling with a friend who had done it before and was very persuasive. He was given a tip from another friend of ours who had been to Crystal before that this was the place to go so I agreed to do the course. Honestly, I do not know what I was so worried about. I took the Openwater course through PADI which had all the equipment hire, insurance (which was important for me), course lessons and dives all included with the course booking.The course was 4 days in total with the first day doing the theory work, the second practicing all the different moves in the kit in a special deep pool and the third and fourth days were diving around Koh Tao. My instructor, Ben, was so helpful, understanding and a great teacher. Honestly, just a sound guy in general which made the whole experience so fun and comfortable for me. The class was also one-on-one as it was mid-July so it was not too busy which I preferred.When it came to the actual dives, I was skeptical as to how much, ‘sealife’, I would encounter just because I understand that many tourist-reliant businesses have to give a generous estimate as to what to expect in their experience. I was pleased to see that on our very first decent, on the way down, we saw a sea turtle just next to the mooring line! We then saw a school of parrot fish and some grouper throughout the 4 dives. On the last day my friend asked Crystal if it were possible for him to join Ben and I on our last day and they were very accommodating letting us dive together even though he was not part of my course. Upon request, Ben even managed to provide us with a camera to capture our dives which was very kind of him.The accommodation was fantastic and was provided with the course for a small fee per night. It had AC, was clean, had curtains for privacy and a large shared balcony just next door where we met some other people, all with Crystal who gave good advice as everyone was at a different stage of doing the same course and were also just good chat/company in general. They provided laundry services (100 baht/kilo), cleaning services (on request) and bike hire (From memory it was 150 baht for a day) just outside the reception.Their customer support was also very supportive and patient. We scuffed our booking in two ways and also rescheduled by 4 days with no issue thanks to the Crystal team.If there was any advice I would give to anyone who is apprehensive like I was and is considering diving in Thailand:Step 1: Book your course at CrystalStep 2: Have a great timeRegarding more practical pointers:Take seasickness tablets (which are provided by Crystal) BEFORE you get on the boat as it can be a little choppy getting out of the harbour area on Koh Tao and they work a treat once they kick in.Also due to boat scheduling for the island, the morning dives can meet at 0645 so perhaps an early night beforehand may be beneficial even if you want to watch England bottle yet another Euros.Just to summarise, an amazing diving centre filled with fantastic people. They offer a wide array of different courses and have managed to streamline the ‘activity holiday’ process into an exciting and memorable experience that I hope many other people get to enjoy.TLDR: 👌
I had the most incredible experience completing my open water diving course at Crystal Dive Koa Tao. I was initially very anxious however Alex and Andrej were extremely informative and supportive throughout the entire process. Both were very professional and passionate which made for an extremely enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend it!
Had the best time doing the 3 day open water PADI course here – can’t go to Koh Tao without diving!!All the instructors were really great and so friendly, I felt really safe diving for the first time thanks to them but definitely ask for the instructor Bo, he explained it really well and we genuinely had the best time diving with him. Only regret is that I didn’t stay longer and do the advanced course!

I had an amazing experience completing my advanced open water course at Crystal dive. My instructor Ben was great – super informative, friendly and helped improve my diving skills and confidence throughout the 2 days. We did the Scuba Diving Course, 2 days with Crystal Dive. 1 afternoon of classroom work and then a day of pool sessions and diving out at sea. So well looked after from start to finish. My girlfriend was new to diving so she was nervous. Naa (our instructor) was incredible. Very understanding and reassuring throughout the 2 days. Working as a small group really gave us the opportunity to learn quickly and enjoy the experience. We saw so many fish even a stingray and puffer fish! I would recommend this to anyone!
After extensive research to find the best dive school, we chose Crystal, and it exceeded all our expectations. From our initial discovery dive, we felt welcomed by the warm, positive energy of the entire staff, but the highlight was undoubtedly having Cat as our instructor. Her expertise and supportive approach instantly put us at ease and made us feel completely safe.We were so impressed that we requested Cat again for our Open Water course the following day, and it was the best decision we could have made. Cat’s guidance transformed what began as a nervous experience into something truly enjoyable and empowering. She was patient, encouraging, and genuinely passionate about teaching and the ocean, which made every dive and pool session engaging and fun. Her ability to help us build confidence in the water made a world of difference, and by the end of the course, we felt fully prepared and skilled.Thanks to Cat and Crystal, we not only gained essential skills but also a love for diving.
