  1. I undertook a 12-week internship with the coral tribe. As a passionate conservationist but having never dived before heading to Koh Tao, the Coral Tribe team taught me lots! Developing my understanding of the local reefs (through the coral tribe program and additional Reef Check certifications) and actively taking part in real conservation efforts such as artificial reef building, deployment, and ocean clean-ups just to pick out a few. I felt I quickly became part of the unique family of the tribe whilst hugely developing my diving skills and passion for marine conservation.

  2. I spent two weeks here for a marine conservation internship with the Coral Tribe and Crystal dive center which they are in partnership with. The dive center provided me training while the Coral Tribe taught me about what sorts of work people are now doing here and across the globe to preserve the ocean🌊Because corals are extremely fragile and delicate organisms, before the start of an internship there will be a buoyancy skill assessment just to analyse if you could control your buoyancy to a satisfactory level. I was no expert either at the beginning but everyone in the team was super friendly, they would offer you advice and support and with the guidance of so many passionate and experienced conservation divers I have definitely seen improvement of my diving skills at the end of my internship.During my stay here I have done: 1. the fish and invertebrates species and quantity survey, it made me pay attention to details that I wasn’t aware enough before and helped me to have a vague concept of which species would be considered endangered in this area (It was only after this dive that I have really started to notice all the baby groupers that are standing on top of corals).2. Coralwatch, which includes noting down the types and colour gradients of corals, the data would be sent to Queensland university for research to assess their health condition and its correlations with the environment🪸 3. I really enjoyed the dive against debris dives, especially when you have to go upside down to pick up a piece of plastic from a tiny little gap, challenging but so rewarding🗑️4. Collecting water samples from different depth then conducting chemical elements, dissolved oxygen, salinity and pH value assays.Once you have seen all the marine life flourishing in their natural environment you would never want to go to aquarium ever again. It really is a whole new world down there that requires our care and respect, I have learnt valuable lessons from the internship about marine conservation and I am so glad that I decided to spend my summer with the Coral Tribe🐙🪼🐡🐠🐟🐋🦈❤

  3. I went with projects abroad to do this project on my own for three weeks last summer. I had an amazing experience, I got my PADI open water and advanced open water and met so many fun people. After I got certified I learned all the ins and outs and most important things about marine conservation and did so many fun dives with coral tribe. From diving against debris to fish identification, to coral watch. I would recommend anyone who’s interested in diving and learning more about the marine conservation to go on this project! Ps: Jenny and Simon are amazing! 🙂

  4. I had the best three weeks with Jenny and Simon and their wonderful team. From day one you are involved hands on in the project. The projects normally starts at around 9-9:30 am with land-based activities like a beach or snorkel clean up, microplastic survey, welding structures for the artificial reef or data entries from the day before. The two afternoon dives involved: Coral Watch, Dive against debris, Drupella snails removal, Crown of thorns survey, Giant clams survey, fish and invertebrate survey, maintenance of the artificial reef and so on. The day normally finishes around 5-6 pm. I had no problems with sea sickness at all (normally I’m really suffering). For the project you need the open water, advanced open water and the peak performance buoyancy. It is possible to do all the courses before the internship no problem. There are a lot of cheap accomodations and food options available. If you want the Coral Tribe can also help you finding an accomodation.I learned so much these past three weeks about marine conservation and my diving (especially buoyancy) improved so much. The whole team is amazing, like a little family and you instantly feel very welcomed and included. Thank you everyone at Coral Tribe, can’t wait to come back!

  5. Was the best experience the work was so rewarding and I learnt so much. All the staff are amazing and super enthusiastic about all the work they are doing. I would 100% recommend this to anybody looking to partake in marine conservation and diving. Thanks to all the team who made it such a special experience.

  6. I spent 6 weeks of the summer 2023 working alongside the coral tribe as an intern, assisting and gaining insight into the amazing research they do for marine conservation. The internship taught me so much about the marine environment and has truly opened my eyes to coral reef conservation issues impacting our planet. The team at The Coral Tribe were incredibly friendly and kind, it really felt like one big family! They have not only given me a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with them on the coral reefs, but have given me a new passion beyond my degree in Environmental Science!Thank you to everyone who made this experience so rewarding and truly unforgettable, I hope to come again soon!

  7. I completed an 8-week internship at the coral tribe. All members are more like friends than bosses. It was one of my best times ever and I can’t wait to go back. You learn so much about the biodiversity of the reefs and the ocean and you can’t wait to see what the next day will bring. I can recommend everyone to spend time with the tribe, you won’t regret it

  8. I spent 3 weeks volunteering with the Coral Tribe and had the most AMAZING experience. I learned about and participated in various citizen science projects related to marine conservation (including CoralWatch, CleanSwell cleanups, Dive Against Debris, and Microplastics surveys) and improved my diving skills immensely, all with the absolute best, most supportive, most passionate team of people!! Jenny and Simon and Mark all make you feel right at home from the very start and are all excellent, enthusiastic teachers. If you are at all interested in conservation or want to give back during your time on vacation for a few hours (they host public beach cleanups every Thursday!) or a few weeks, I can’t recommend the Tribe enough!! You won’t want to leave!!

  9. An amazing experience for anyone interested in marine life and/or conservation which entails a schedule filled with interesting, fun and challenging activities that in addition, offers great help to the cause with internships of varying lengths to suit your availability. However, there are requirements such as being an Advanced Open Water Diver and having completed the Peak Performance Buoyancy course but, both qualifications are quite simple and straightforward to receive and are also made quite convenient to complete seeing as The Coral Tribe is stationed in and associated with Crystal Dive Hotel who are able to provide these courses. The staff at The Coral Tribe are also very welcoming and accommodating who are sure to introduce you very well to the work they conduct and ensure that you feel comfortable during your stay with them. Overall, a very eye-opening and educational adventure as well as a great opportunity to give back to the world which is sure to provoke an immense sense of accomplishment by the end.
