As Thai food is a favorite of mine and I love to cook, I thought it would be interesting to take a cooking class while visiting Bangkok. My travel agent suggested Pia, and I registered for a class. Pia is not only an amazing cook, but also a wonderful person. She contacted me several weeks before I was due to be in Thailand to explain the various types of dishes I might be interested in and then suggested several menu items. The day of my scheduled cooking classes, she promptly arrived at the designated meeting spot. We then shopped the local market for our cooking supplies. She is a wealth of information on all the items for sale in the market and always willing to answer any and all questions. We then went back to her home (beautifully decorated and very clean). Pia makes you feel like a family member. Her instructions are excellent. We prepared several dishes which I then got to enjoy. She was even kind enough to send me off with a “doggie bag.” to enjoy later.Again, it was a totally enjoyable and educational experience. She is a pro. I only hope I might be lucky enough to return to bangkok some day and take more classes.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I was on a trip to Thailand and wanted to learn to make a few of my favorite Thai dishes. We made red curry fried rice, shrimp fried rice, fried red curry tofu and one with prawn. It was a fabulous experience. Pia’s culinary skills are very good. We made some of the most delectable food you can find anywhere in Bangkok. She is very helpful right from the market trip explaining every item and many more in detail. She’s very patient during the cooking process, giving ample time for me to slice and dice, measure the ingredients and cook with utmost precision so that I can successfully create almost all of the dishes when I’m back home. Furthermore, even after the class was over and I got back home, she always was ready to answer any questions I had throughout my Thai cooking career so to say! I highly recommend taking her cooking class.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to cook thai food but I wasn’t confident in my ability to do it. Pia’s Thai Kitchen made learning how to cook thai food fun and easy. I can highly recommend that when you are in Thailand that you take the time to take a lesson. When I walked in, Pia gave me and everyone a warm welcome and everything was very clean and well organized. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough time in Bangkok to take more lessons. After learning from Pia, I’m confindent that I can replicated what I’ve learned and impress my friends back home.
How this is not the number one private Thai cooking experience in Bangkok I do not know. Pia was extremely welcoming and highly knowlegable. She speaks immaculate english. To be guided around the hustle of a genuine thai food market by such an expert was excellent. Pia is full of little tips about how to select the very best produce, what’s in season etc etc. We were able to pick literally whatever we wanted to cook – we opted for some classic thai dishes as well as a couple of wild cards of her suggestion.Pia welcomed us into her beautiful home and we cooked and ate delicious authentic meals in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. No added colourings, barely any oil, NO MSG! Foodie heaven. We came away laden with delicious food to eat later. Cannot reccomend this highly enough!
We were very very lucky to find Pia available at such short notice. Having called at 9AM begging for a private class for 2 at 11AM we had low expectations of availability, but Pia was so accommodating and made it happen. This was a definite highlight of our trip, from the minute we stepped into the local food market to the end product of gorging on our delicious meals, it was non-stop fun and interest.Pia speaks perfect English which is helpful if you’re trying to learn so much about the local produce and ingredients! She took us round all the different sections of the market, encouraging us to try new things and providing lots of information and great tips that I’ve already started using back at home!We then came back to her lovely home to cook the most delicious menu of Thai food. Im so proud of myself for learning such fabulous food that I will carry on making back home.Pia prides herself on only using fresh and local produce, with minimal oil but most importantly no MSG, nothing processed and no colourings. Everything has a history and reason for being in the dish. It was so much fun and she was such a fantastic host and wonderful cook! Please make sure you try this cooking class, we are so happy we didn’t go with a big cooking school where the focus would have been more on the number of people they can get through the door rather than the great lessons we’ve learnt. This is definitely the best cooking experience in Bangkok!!!
As a family that lives over seas and engage in many different cultural cooking classes, this was the best by far! Pia was able to take us to the local market to pick up fresh ingredients for the dishes that we were preparing. Visiting the market allowed us the get some of the history on why certain fruits and vegetables are used in dishes. It also gives you a chance to see items that you will not see in any other market. Pia cooking classes was awesome!! She breaks down the purpose of each ingredient and suggest alternates if you do not care for certain ones. The amount of food prepared was bountiful. It lasted for an additional two meals, which helps when you have teenagers. The food itself was delicious and full of flavor. I can still remember my eyes rolling in my head from the first bite!!
We had a 2 family combined cooking class this morning with Pia in her lovely home not far from Sukhumvit. Although I had a few more cooking classes in Thailand over the years I have lived here, this was the most wonderful one!! The recipes were catered to our wishes and all the recipes were made without MSG or stock cubes, just fresh ingredients and super tasty herbs being used. Pia is such a gentle and friendly person that you immediately feel at home. She knows her stuff and has some amazing knife skills!! We asked for some Isan recipes and she fulfilled our wishes with Kor Moo Yang salad, fish cakes, tom yum kung, steamed fish in banana leaf and a yummy desert sticky Pandan rice with banana. Everything smelled and tasted so good! We had the greatest lunch!! And on top of that we could take the left overs home! So lucky us :)I can totally recommend Pia for your next cooking class! She is the best!!
This is the best introduction to cooking delicious Thai food you could get. In fact, it is much more than a cooking lesson. Pia is an absolute star whose talent, kindness and enthusiasm shine out. The day started with a trip to the market, where Pia showed us where to get the best ingredients and the huge variety of produce available to combine for the balance of sweet, salty, sour and spicy at the heart of Thai cuisine. Back home the serious work began. Pia has a whole menu of dishes to choose from. We started with three basic dishes, but that quickly expanded as Pia showed us ever more we could do. One of the dishes we chose was the green curry. While it may be one of the most familiar dishes for foreigners, what emerges with Pia’s guidance (and to be honest a lot of the work) is a huge level above what you’d get in Bangkok restaurants, let alone outside Thailand. There is no monosodium glutamate or chicken powder here – just talent, technique, patience and good ingredients. Every minute you spend at Pia’s Thai Kitchen will be well spent. And after you have learned how to cook the dishes and present them beautifully, you get to eat them too. Having made a start, we would love to learn the rest of Pia’s menu.
Doing a Thai cooking course was a great addition to our visit to Bangkok, and Pia was a wonderful guide to the secrets of Thai cooking. We especially appreciated her enthusiasm and knowledge in putting together an exquisite vegetarian meal and the warm welcome to her home; the one aspect Pia can still improve is planning the preparation and number of dishes so that the course can be completed within the agreed timeframe. The cooking course was a roaring success with our teenage boys, who came home trying to make coconut milk from scratch and have turned into perfect mango peelers.
The food is delicious and perfect for take out! My favorite is the potato curry dish or ginger beef. also order the Hmong egg rolls. Definitely our favorite Asian place in Green Bay!
