I strongly recommend spending a few hours on a Sunday taking a trip out to Hansa Minigolf. Four of us went out there for the second time this weekend and had a great time. Hansa is located about a 25 minute scooter ride away from the Old City. Google maps isn’t always reliable around Chiang Mai but if you pop Hansa Golf into your smartphone it will take you right there. The first part of the ride is highway and hence not much fun, but the last 10 -15 minutes or so is on a quaint one lane country road with some nice rice paddy and mountain vistas to appreciate. The building and grounds the course is located on are meticulously maintained. The “clubhouse” looks brand new and is open air. They serve food (I haven’t tried) and drinks and have a huge selection of board games and activities if you just want to relax and enjoy after your round. The proprietor speaks English and, along with the staff, is very friendly and accomodating. We paid 100 baht a person, but if you come with 5 people it is buy 4 get 1 free. The course is fun, but very challenging and at times downright frustrating. My only real criticism of Hansa is that you are putting off smooth cement. This makes the “greens” faster than Sunday at Augusta and you can tap your one foot putt only to watch it slowly run all the way back to the beginning of the hole. If they put down basic short fake grass to create enough friction so the ball stopped this course would be marvelous, but that aside its still great fun.In a nut shell if you are looking for something fun to do with some friends on a Sunday afternoon take the ride out to Hansa Minigolf and bring your deet.
Look, we’re Australians from a very dry climate, so a 100 metre walk in Thailand is hell on earth to us at the best of times. This isn’t the mini golf people’s fault. Lovely setting, great for family fun. A pleasant escape from central chiang mai. Despite seemingly being German owned, the eurasian “frau” running it was exceptionally nice. Only complaint from a mini golf purist is the concrete “greens”.
Hansa is a mini-golf course with a difference. The holes are themed around major world features,e.g Great wall of China, Ullaru, Pyramids etc They are well built and maintained but as for the concrete greens, it is the most practical surface for the climate. Hot season would wrinkle any artificial grass and wet season would quickly water-log the holes. The beaty of Hansa is the people running it. They are so friendly and helpful. Many schools and local Universities have fun days there because they are so accomodating. They have a small but varied menu and the food is very good. The selection of games is extensive and this adds to the fun of of your visit after the frustrations of golf ( it always is frustrating), you can relax in the open air club house with drinks and nice food. Go as a party and increase the fun. Its not expensive but certainly worth a visit for a different experience that all the family can be part of.
Beautifully kept mini golf course. Super helpful English speaking owner/ manager. A lovely clean restaurant area with delicious and affordable lunch options (45-140 baht).nice big airy dining room. It might help them to call ahead and make a booking if you have a big group hoping for lunch. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Restaurant nice and clean. Indoor board games to play while you wait for your food, or on a rainy day, while you wait for the downpour to end. Great for our family group with kids as young as six as well as teens. Reasonably priced 30 baht for under 12s, 50 for the teens and 100 for the adults. A good day out for a family.
Yesterday a group of us decided to play the Hansa Minigolf just for fun, what an excellent day. The 18 holes are protected by many well planted trees, it is kept in great condition, the location is also good, not that far from the city. After playing we had snacks and soft drinks, although alcohol is available, the clubhouse is well appointed and the staff are very friendly, and naturally the ‘fun’ side became very competetive, will be back soon
Great facilities and lovely staff. A very well crafted mini-golf set up which you can see has had a lot of thought put into it. Very well priced too at THB 100 for adults and THB 30 for children. Wife and 9 month old stayed in the clubhouse whilst my 7 year old and I did the course. Nice to finally play a game with him that didn’t involve joysticks, aliens and laser beams 😉
My girlfriend brought me here for my birthday. It was amazing! The course is one of the coolest mini-golf designs I’ve seen (I’m from the US and I’ve seen quite a few), with descriptions of a famous landmark including photo at the start of each hole and then the actual landmark as part of each hole. Amazing. For example, one hole features the Eiffel Tower and another a pyramid in Mexico. The 18-hole course looks absolutely incredible and the owner is wonderful. It requires a little drive out of CM, but not too far and the road leading to the course features some nice scenery you won’t normally see around the city.Bring your kids; or don’t. It will be fun either way.Snacks are available at the very nice clubhouse (better than many actual golf courses’ clubhouses), but consider eating a full meal somewhere else. Mostly “Western” food like chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, fries, etc. They taste good but I would consider them mainly snack foods. If you want to make a day out of it, stop at Mae Jo Golf Resort for some food on the way back to CM.
Mini golf set up was superb as well as the service. The different holes were well thought out and a lot of fun to play. The grounds were also well designed and looked after with a lot of shade built in. The manager there was also very accommodating and helpful. Great day out with the family.
