  1. Don’t expect the Great Lakes, but enjoy a change from the city with the chance of lovely sunsets. Watch the fishermen cast their nets, and try the restaurants overlooking the lake. Follow the road past farmers and their buffaloes, with egrets keen to perch in the time-honoured style. Hear the splash as Nile Perch flash in the sunlit fish ponds. See the local children play in the water as their parents enjoy a picnic.

  2. Nothing much to do, just sit and watch water .. there are some street food/ restaurants there but seem to be bad.

  3. Huai Saneng Reservoir is one of two large reservoirs that provide the water supply to Surin, in Thailand’s north east.It is located 5 km from Surin on the Surin-Prasat Highway 24.It is very popular with locals, who use its banks for picnics, fish, of watch sometimes spectacular sunsets. It is also a great place for the kids to jump in the water with rubber tyres and cool off in the summer heat. There are food vendors walking up and down with trays of snacks. We had two bottles of chilled Singha beer, so took six small serves of the snack offerings. We had red ants eggs in a spicy salad, fried crickets (yes, as in the insects), small crispy fried fish (no more than 2 cm long), raw tiny shrimps in a spicy salad, hard boiled quail eggs and crispy fried tiny shrimps. The snacks are 20 baht each, or 3 for 50 baht.I wasn’t too keen on the fried crickets, but the other snacks went down very well with my icy cold beer.

  4. This is a big (maybe 1km x 2km?) shallow lake that supplies agricultural water. The Royal family have a palace on the edge of it,and on the other side is a Buddhist university. Water level can vary a bit. Some restaurants on the Palace side. Locals fish it, but no one seems to swim in it or sail board – don’t know why, maybe a bit too weedy. A nice bike ride from the city (Surin) along the clong (channel), 25Km round trip. No shade trees in the easy to get to edges so for a picnic take some sort of cover.

  5. A great place to go for traditional thai food, little chalets on the edge with plenty of maekong catfish to entertain you while you’re waiting. Good value for money, been many times now, hopefully be back again soon

  6. beautiful place for nature lovers. I love water , lotus flower and local food. This is a great place to walk around, eat some snack

  7. This place is quite pretty to walk around. Good Thai food and snacking all around the reservoir. With impressive sun set views, it is a nice place where Surin people always come for relax, enjoy dining, fishing. I love Roasted lotus seeds, snack product of Surin Province. Great for Huai Saneng salad and crusted stuff but still best eaten just like that.
