Rented a Mazda BT50 to drive around the north. Excellent service and reasonable price. I would recommend to anyone, they are very courteous and efficient.
This is going to be a mix review. Mr Mechanic has 3 shops in Chiang Mai.They all have the same prices and the same bigger bikes depending if it’s available.I rented a new Honda 500X which was a blessing on the Mae Hong Son loop. THB1200 without insurance. It turned out I had no rear brake, simply not working…The front guy at shop 2 who is very friendly and possibly helpful simply had a laugh and said sorry. That was it….I found the lady owner simply rude when I mentioned they were renting bikes without a licence plate. She simply said if you don’t take it somebody else will. ..It’s apparently ok with police for new bikes due to delays in processing registration papers. Someone could have explain/understand my question better since I was going to go through several police checks due to the proximity of the border and entering the Mae Hong Son province…There seems to be a general lack of care and enthusiasm knowing they have most of the market. Bikes seems generally good plus most of them have a box to save you using ties on the bag rack. Ok but not impressed.
Hired a PCX 155, the scooter was in mint condition, under 500km milage. Great price, no hidden extras or restrictions of where I could ride. Very friendly and helpful, highly recommended
Have been coming to Chiang mai since 2011. Mr. Mechanic was really good to me till now Have never had any issues with scooters from here , even with older stock maintenance was really good . Rented 150cc as i was off to Pai and Mae hong son. Bike made it to Pai no issues, but destroyed its belt drive , upon closer inspection the scooter had no oil on the dip stick , if i had travelled much further i would have destroyed the motor ad well ! So maintenance is non exsistant now ! Refunded some rental and the expense of collection, do not know if a change in ownership or management but won’t be going back ever !!!!Shame to see a good business go to crap.
We rented two bicycles, and they attempted to deceive us by providing us with poor-quality bikes. After one hour of riding, one of the initial motorcycles malfunctioned and became inoperable. We had to wait for an hour and a half before they brought us a replacement bike. Unfortunately, the second motorcycle they provided also broke down in the middle of the forest. We were stranded, and despite taking our deposit, they refused to refund it. THEY are MAJOR SCAMMERS.
Me and friends of mine are renting big bikes with Mr. Mechanic almost once a year – apart from the times of the COVID pandemic – since 2005, most of the times for several days or weeks. In all these years we NEVER had issues with Mr. Mechanic; actually it’s “Lady Mechanic”+ nice who are running the company. We just returned from a 1800 km loop in Northern Thailand on Kawasaki Vulcan 650 and Honda CBX 500. All went well and we got a special rate for long term rental. Upon return to Chiang Mai Lady Mechanic even invited us for a farewell dinner on the Ping River. 13 years ago on my 50th anniversary I was presented with a bouquet of flowers.On a scale from 1 -10 “Lady”/Mr. Mechanic and her friendly team truly deserves 12 points !!!
Three of us from Australia hired a cb500 x each off mr mechanic in July for five days to do the Mae Hong Son loop .Two of the bikes were near new and the third had a few scratches on the crash bars but in otherwise excellent condition like the other two.The trip was great ,there were no issues with the bikes and our dealings with the Mr Mechanic staff were entirely positive,whether it was the bargain price of 1200 baht a day per bike or the very reasonable 3000 baht cash only damage deposit per bike.No dramas when we returned the bikes ,got our deposits back(none of that giving them your passport nonsense)and I cannot recommend this company highly enough.Try Mr Mechanic,and as long as you don’t drop or otherwise damage the bike then they are great to deal with.David from Australia
The management and staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble, every request was met with a smiling response and efficienta ction.Payment in full for the hire plus Photo of your passport and security deposit is all that is required to hire a low km good condition bike. (Be advised that some other hire companies will hold your passport.)I highly recommend this company , I have now hired quality big bikes from them on 3 occasions and I compliment management an staff on a smooth and pleasant experience.Bikes are fully insured, well maintained latest models and backed up by break dow service that come to you if necessary. Given the well maintained current model bikes I doubt this will be necessary but a comforting feeling when on the Mae Hong Son loop or beyond ?

Great price. Good scooters and a great staff! Highly recommended. My 4th time renting at the various Mr. Mechanic shops. Always the best in town.
