I really enjoyed this course and excursion. The host was friendly, reliable and delivered high quality. I can really recommend this. I came alone, and this was no problem. I felt very safe.
Absolutely wonderful experience – 100% recommended. I booked after reading the great reviews but was still a little nervous, especially with a 15-year-old in tow who has especially exacting standards. I needn’t have worried: David and Maple were brilliant hosts from beginning to end and communication was easy and quick. Meeting point was easy to find and from there it was a few minutes walk to the amazing food market (I know Hua Hin has other markets but this was something else…an extraordinary cornucopia of foody delights very much targeted at locals). David walked us through the market, patiently explaining what was what, while Maple – and her sister, Baby, who was visiting from Bangkok – were busy buying all the fresh ingredients for our choice of dishes. A quick tuk tuk ride and we were welcomed (with cool, homemade, lemongrass cordial) into the calm oasis of David and Maple’s lovely home for the cooking and eating part of the experience. We had chosen a soup and a stir fry and everything about the class was perfect – I can’t think of anything our hosts could have done to improve it. The final meal was one of the best I’ve ever eaten – I could hardly believe I’d cooked it myself! There was even a ‘bonus’ pudding which was also delicious. After lunch, we were delivered back to our apartment by taxi and were emailed both the recipes we’d cooked and also lots of great photos of us ‘in action’! The morning with David, Maple and Baby was a highlight of our holiday. We were fortunate to be nearby but if you’re staying a little further afield, it’s certainly worth making a special trip. Honestly, don’t hesitate – book it!
This was such fun. David and Maple welcomed us into their home before we started the cooking experience. They are a charming couple and we think they will do very well with the service they offer. It was so much more personal and therefore enjoyable than being part of a big class. We highly recommend them to anyone looking to experience something completely ‘Thai’.We wish them good luck.
We spent a wonderful afternoon with David & Maple learning a few Thai cooking skills. They were both supremely welcoming and we learned far more than just the cooking skills. With a lot of experience of the country David was an invaluable source of information and knowledge about the area and life in Thailand in general. As one of the other reviews said, the food was delicious and all the more amazing considering that we’d cooked it! We enjoyed Tom Kha Gai, Pad Thai with prawns and Mango Sticky Rice. I only hope that when we try them back home they’re half as good.
David is a quite, gentle English guy who has been living in Thailand for about 15 years, so he knows the country and its people. As noted in other reviews he meets you in town and then takes you to the local food market which is a great experience. Then back to their home where his lovely Thai wife Maple shows you how to make a couple of dishes (prawn phad Thai and a prawn and cashew stir fry for our group) and then a sticky rice and mango dessert. The group is limited to four so you are all involved in preparation and cooking. Very well worthwhile and very reasonably priced.
Had such a warm welcome from David & Maple. Picked up in the morning by David – had a tour round food market in Hua Hin to start with. Arrived at their home to a refreshing lemongrass tea & introduced to Maple. I was invited to make any menu requests the day before, however I was happy to be guided by these guys. Really relaxed atmosphere & enjoyed eating all the super Thai food we created before heading back to hotel. I did this experience on my own & would recommend to both solo & group travellers. I would encourage anyone spending time in Hua Hin to add this to their itinerary! Having pictures of the morning and recipes emailed afterwards is a real bonus- thank you! A highlight of my few days here
We thoroughly enjoyed our cooking experience with David and Maple. David guided us through the food market, which was a feast for the senses. We were able to taste a few things we hadn’t come across before, and could have tried more if we had been braver! We then took a tuk- tuk ride back to David and Maple’s home, where a delicious home made lemongrass drink was awaiting us. We had been asked via email if we had any preferences regarding what we were going to cook, and asked to do something different from the familiar green Thai curry. The soup and prawn and cashew nut stir fry we made together were delicious, and it gave me a great deal of pleasure to be able to say that the best meal I had in Thailand was one I cooked myself! (With a little help from Maple, admittedly).I liked this course because we were able to go around the market with someone who had knowledge of many of the items, and we were able to ask David and Maple as many questions as we wanted. I would throughly recommend this course to anyone interested in Thai cuisine and culture.
