  1. We both loved this shop and did buy quite a few things: Sue, a bag made from handwoven fabric woven by the hilltribes, me a soft fabric bag for my glasses with a different pattern, a exquisite set of handmade silver forks (the last set, sorry!) and some hand chiselled copper leaves for which I still need to function. THis whole stretch of street has some of the nices shops in Chiang Mai: modern but using local fabrics and craftmanship.

  2. This shop has a wonderful selection of modern arts and crafts including tribal baskets and textiles. The staff are most helpful especially in preparing purchased items for posting home.. we bought our cardboard box in the local post office and staff filled and prepared contents for postage home.

  3. This store carries very high quality crafts from the Pwo Karen people of Mae Hong Son province, northern Thailand. Not only are they items you don’t see anywhere else, but the decor and atmosphere is serene. There are textiles, baskets, housewares, handbags and lanterns and other crafts items made of natural materials in lovely colors. It’s located right at the front gate of the Baan Orapin Guesthouse. There are also other wonderful shops and cafes along this street, so it’s easy to spend up to half a day browsing and dining.

  4. Specializing in exquisitely crafted textiles and baskets laboriously created by the Pwo Karen hill tribesman, this shop is unique in its presentation and reason for being. The creation of Kent Gregory, who grew up with and identifies with the Pwo Karen, this shop was created to provide an outlet for their crafts and as a means to improve their condition. Over many years he has guided and encouraged tribal craftsman to modify indigenous weaving and basket techniques to meet the demands of the modern day shopper. The result is truly impressive, with products that would be a unique addition to any household. Take time to visit this shop, you won’t be disappointed.

  5. I have to admit this is one of the best shops in Chiangmai, good quality and design, would prefer to spend here than other shops with questionable quality. Price range is medium to high, but if you appreciate materials and the workmanships that have been put into, you know it is very worthwhile. A handstiched textile (from the hill tribe) cost from around 2500-4000 baths. I really hope they could extend their goods to clothings though. But overall, a very recommended store to visit when you are in Chiangmai.

  6. A not for profit foundation store selling high quality hand crafted pieces that the creators have been paid a fair price for. We visited this shop on our last visit to Chiang Mai, but couldn’t decide what piece we wanted so didn’t buy anything then. We wanted too much and couldn’t agree which we should take! I regretted that all year, so went this year with a specific idea as what we wanted and ended buying a fantastic wall covering. It isn’t cheap by local prices, but the makers get a fair price for their work and it likely took someone a month to set up the loom and manufacture our piece, how do you value that?

  7. I am obsessed with textiles and always try to purchase items on my travels which contribute to the place I am visiting. This is one of those non-profit organizations where you walk away with very high quality items for your home and know that your money is going towards a worthy cause. I highly recommend a stop if you are in Chiang Mai.

  8. A very tasteful, upscale selection of handmade textile items. Somewhat more expensive than Thai Tribal but still reasonable. I bought some gorgeous handwoven fabric for 850 bhat/ meter, which is a tiny fraction of what would be charged in NYC. A bit heavy on the cushion covers but they are quite nice.
