Rented a Honda Click for just over a week. Worked out at approx 170 baht per day. Travelled Thailand for 2 months and rented scooters on roughly 4 out of every 5 days in about a dozen locations in total. Most professional service I received from a motorbike rental place for the entire 2 months and only one that accepted credit card payment. Would definitely use on any return trip to Chiang Mai.
I rented a bike for a week. It was in good condition and ran well. The customer service was good. There were no issues when returning the bike.
Renting a bike was so easy with Vanessa. She gave us helpful information on how to stay safe on the road and even gave my less experienced friend a quick practice session to get her confidence up. Great prices and such an easy transaction.
The following is a story within a review.I searched Google for the best motorbike hire shops in Chiang Mai Province and Vanessa’s came up at the top. With excellent Google reviews and customer information pointing toward the shop not wanting to take a passport as a deposit, I headed over. Some motorbike rental companies will lie, when you return their bike, and say you have damaged the bike and you’re not getting your passport back until you pay for the damage, so caveat emptor! (buyer beware!).Arrived in a Songthaew (tuk-tuk) and met with Vanessa who is a very pleasant lady. Her husband is English and he’s from Milton Keynes, near Bedfordshire. After choosing my bike, I paid a 2,000 baht (roughly £45) deposit and 1,000 baht (roughly £22) for one week of hire. Where can you hire a motorbike for £3.50 a day in any Western country? Not bad.I had two issues. One small and one major. The first issue was the small one. Riding the bike away, I got down the road and noticed that the speedometer wasn’t working. With the Thai Police being quite militant in Chiang Mai for pulling Farangs (Europeans) over, I decided it was best not to risk having to pay an extra bribe for speeding on top of whatever else excuse the police made to extort money from me. Just to let you know, from experience, the bribe for not carrying your license on you when riding a motorbike is 500 baht (roughly £11) and the bribe for parking on red and white chequered kerbs is 400 baht (roughly £8). Illegal parking is paid at the police station but any bribe you pay when pulled over is paid straight to the policeman.I immediately returned with the bike and informed Vanessa of the issue. As there were no other bikes in my category I was upgraded free of charge to a much newer bike with a working speedometer. No problems with this bike for the next 6 days. The major issue was as follows. I decided to drive the 2 and a half hours (103km) journey to Doi Inthanon National Park. Enjoying the sunshine and the wind in my hair (only the sides as I’m bald) and navigating my way through scenic countryside the journey there was spectacular. It wasn’t until I got near to the summit (half an hour’s drive into the National Park after the checkpoint) that the bike broke down. It turns out that the belt driving the rear wheel from the engine had not only snapped but exploded inside the casing. The bike wouldn’t move anywhere (obviously).I was extremely panicked as I was in the middle of nowhere 103km away from my hotel with no calling credit left on my phone (that part is my own stupid fault)! I decided that it was best to sit on the bike and let it roll down the hill in the hopes that I could find a kind person who would allow me to use their phone to call Vanessa’s.As luck would have it, at the bottom of the hill there was a mechanic’s shop. How lucky was I to break down near a mechanic in the middle of a National Park and in the situation I was in!?! Perhaps I should have played the lottery that day instead! The mechanic didn’t have the correct part, so I had to wait four hours. The mechanic asked me if I was ok to wait, to which I replied, “the alternative is walking back to Chiang Mai” and he laughed. It cost me 650 baht for the new belt (roughly £13).To cut the long story short, I presented the repair receipt to Vanessa without high hopes that I was going to get reimbursed for the repairs. She offered to pay half, I accepted and she gave me 300 baht and my 2,000 baht deposit back. However, she forgot to charge me 200 baht for the extra day I had the bike so I was only 150 baht out of pocket. Result!I would just like to say that obviously mechanical things can break down and I’m not blaming the shop for this as they probably weren’t to know. That’s why I’ve still given them 5 stars.
Awesome scooter rental business. Plenty of bike options and no problem changing our request when we arrived to pick up. Vanessa is really friendly. All paperwork and booking is professional and easily taken care of. Scooter was in really good condition. We were provided with helmets, free dust masks and free pick up at the end of our month-long rental. Great service provided. Would definitely use again.
Vanessa + Robin and their team are amazing! They’re friendly and accommodating, super helpful, understanding, and kind! Vanessa went out of her way to help me find a motorbike to purchase from her friend once I stopped renting. THANK YOU! They are centrally located and easy to access. Great prices, and not at all scammy to tourists. If you’re in Chiang Mai for a short while or a long time, definitely seek out their shop and get a bike from them! They have TONS of options to suit your preferences and experience level! 🙂
I booked a rental bike for two weeks with Vanessa’s Motorbike Hire. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of freedom you get from driving yourself around Thailand on one. Affordable prices, plus you can leave a deposit and copy of your passport instead of the passport itself. If you need a set of wheels for awhile, this is the place to be.
Got recommended this place from a friend and it didn’t disappoint. The cheapest prices I’ve seen for a relatively new, reliable 125cc bike. Got quoted 3 times the price elsewhere. Great service from Vanessa, zero problems getting the deposit back, brilliant service.
I stayed in Chiangmai for 3 months and opted to rent a bike for ease of travel. There are many bike rental shops here, but choosing a credible shop is critical as you really want to avoid getting stuck with mechanical problems in the middle of nowhere AND in a foreign land! When I did my research on bike rental in Chiangmai, Vanessa Motorbike Hire popped up more than once. Thus, even though it was a little out of the way from where I was staying, I visited the shop to get my ride on a weekday morning. At first glance, it seems the shop was closed but I was welcomed in when I walked closer to the door.Vanessa turns out to be a charming lady who runs this bike rental business all by herself. Her cat, a welcome presence in the shop, is super clean and cute! After I told her my requirements, she showed me her available bikes and we quickly settled on a Honda Click. Vanessa was patient and attentive while answering my questions about riding a bike in Chiangmai. The rental price was reasonable, and the paperwork was done smoothly without fuss. Since I have only recently arrived and the shop doesn’t accept credit cards, I had to ride to the nearby Maya Mall to withdraw some cash before returning to the shop to finish up the payment. I managed to extend my visa twice and so had to extend my bike rental duration accordingly. After the first month, I returned to the bike shop and Vanessa made a brief inspection to check the engine oil, etc, just to be sure that the bike is still in tiptop condition. I really appreciate this initiative. She also offered to wash my bike on several occasions. When I requested an extra helmet for a friend, I immediately got one free-of-charge. Throughout my stay in Chiangmai, the bike never gave me any issues at all. The two helmets I used were also clean and of good quality. I didn’t ride too far out of the city, though I did ride up Doi Suthep and as far as the airport. I’ve rented bikes all over the world and can safely say that this is one of the best outfit I’ve come across. Should really have written this review earlier.. but work and duties conspired to overwhelm my life the moment I returned to Singapore ?
Honestly, this is where you want to rent a motorbike in Chiang Mai!I was recommended to rent from Vanessa by a friend and I am so happy I did. She is so friendly and charged me a great price for a high-quality motorbike, despite the fact it was high season and she didn’t have many left. She was also super understanding and kind.
